When I heard the first track, I was so hyped. While the album was good, you start to notice that it feels samey. Even when it was progressing, it felt like nothing new was happening. That and the songs that overstay their welcome just bring the album down though. Their drummer is amazing tho.
Wow this is a dated disaster. The electronics in this feel like badly aged ncs music. The rapping sounds like the worst rapping I heard in my life. Like I would rather listen to mgk rapping. Tyler’s singing is fine though. It’s not my favorite but it’s good.
Let’s talk about the good songs being guns for hands and truce. Truce at least makes me feel a little better about wasting 40 minutes. A good cleanser of an outro. Guns for hands has some pretty good vocal work ... read more
This album is refreshing after dealing with the creature that is vessel. I enjoyed most of this album. Despite switching it up in songs, it still feels consistent. This review took me a while cus I had some songs looping for a while (Vignette mainly). The rapping is way more tolerable in this album and the flow doesn’t sound anywhere near as bad as vessel. I don’t think it’s revolutionary but I would be lying if I said this wasn’t a banger. Would recommend.
I was let down. I walked into this very optimistic and the first track was a banger, however, later on, many of the tracks start to feel boring which is not what I listen to coheed for. This album is unique though as it's their only album not related to any comic book lore from the armory wars or vaxis. With that, I can see the writing is more personal and in tracks like Atlas (Actual S tier Coheed song) it really shines. That said though, it is not enough to overlook many of these songs ... read more
The lyricism actually was pretty good. Evangeline and the title track were the big highlights for me. I actually didn’t think much of the cover though. It was good but not living up to the hype.
The instrumentation was beyond my expectations. Not insane but really talented. However we must address the elephant in the room. I’m not a country guy. While I can appreciate the music, I don’t see myself relistening to this.
Overall, not my thing but if it was, prolly would rate ... read more
I did a project on A Night in Tunisia by them a while back and never digged further. Having now done that, I regret my past choice strongly. This is some really good stuff if you like jazz. While I'm not too much of a jazz listener and don't plan to do a lot of reviews on it, I can enjoy every song on this record. While Blues March was the weakest song, that isn't saying a lot. It still goes crazy especially with the drums. Thunder Drum Suite is my favorite by far followed by Are ... read more
Yknow I actually listened to a lot of rush back in 2023 but forgot to ever go back which is odd because I love rush's music. However, I never actually listened to moving pictures in full so I decided I should review it. Another regret in my chud life. No one told me how amazing Red Barchetta is. I already knew Tom Sawyer, Limelight, and YYZ but man this album surprised me. I did think Witch hunt was kinda forgettable but every other song is ridiculously good. Strong Recommend.
This is the most popular 90s kpop album on AOTY so I was interested. Yknow I was surprised at first how different this album sounded from what you expect from kpop nowadays. It was very eurobeat, dance, and dance hop influenced. That said, my interest was not as piqued as I thought it would be. Ca Tient Moi was super annoying with the repetition and the lack of direction to make up for it.
I like this style of music but save for some of the B sides, it’s not that unique. I think this ... read more
This album is genuinely phenomenal. I came into this expecting the music to be not the best considering this is right after what I thought as the worst coheed album. To say I was blown away is an understatement. They really expanded on their sound while also dong what they do best being their hooks. Each hook is amazing but it doesn't stop there. The verses are also just as peak. This album firms my claim that this is my favorite band. 4 incredibly talented musicians making music so fun ... read more
The second best of the Vaxis albums so far as of Father of Make Believe. I do think blood and our love could've been better but thats a minor thing. This album has amazing short songs like shoulders, liars club, comatose (reminds me of lost by BMTH but that came after comatose), and a disappearing act. The long songs are stellar too with the title track being the standout. This is in my opinion a top 5 coheed song that I would recommend to anyone into prog. The ending acts of it are just ... read more
This is close to their best work. The title track, The Light and the Glass, and 21:13 are some of coheed's best music. Some goofy lines attached with horrendous karaoke lines("die white girls"/"pull the trigger and the nightmare stops") but honestly, its charming when done by this band. Amazing instrumentation with some of Claudio's best singing.
This was an album I was hyped for since the teaser video dropped. I was so on the edge of my seat. Finally the singles and the album came out. This is peak power metal.
Freedom Heart is a banger intro going off the first track and really gives you a clue on what to expect. This song is amazing in full including the feature of Gyze and Syu.
Dracula X is an absolute banger that has everything in power metal. Jacky Vincent, blast beats, powerful chorus, and amazing vocals.
Stars is a ballad ... read more
I may dislike radiohead as people but this is a perfect record. The guitar effects are so cool on this record and every riff just has an edge that you dont see in other records. The lyricism and just general vocal work is remarkable. The overall production just has a certain feel which fits the album cover the way it got me making that expression. Favorites are planet telex, sulk, and street spirit.
The instrumentals are great but man some other choices are not great. While she left the super cringe lyrics, I still be feeling the bad choices like sneaking-neaking-neaking or many cheesy werewolf sitting meme level of lyrics. I didn’t think I would dislike a lotus juice feature on a song about metal gear but…dang. Also ending on a mid taylor swift song is not a great taste on the mouth after finishing the album.
There is a change though. She’s making some pretty great ... read more
This is not an album of songs. I’d say the whole thing is a portal into an experience. It’s like a world inside the music. You are gonna notice I won’t mention specific stuff on the sound because I simply can’t. It is a beast of its own that I cannot even grasp. Sounds that pull me into settings. Areas of battle. Areas of loneliness. Areas that I can’t even describe. This album is almost scary with how different it is from anything I have known.
Im actually upset a little after listening to this. Let me explain my ranking. 21st Schizoid Man is a wonderful starter track and honestly, the intensity is really engaging in this. I talk to the wind is way more on the calm side but still is a fantastic track. Now I do not say this lightly, Epitaph is a top three song of all time. This is beautiful and a perfect length. I love this song so much. Moonchild though....this is what upsets me. This transition from epitaph to moonchild feels like ... read more
This is a crazy album that actually surprised me with how much each song just goes off the rails. It is chaos acted with so much precision that I dont think there can ever be another album like this. Make no mistake, me saying it’s chaotic does not just mean it is screaming and stupid. It actually goes insanely hard and gives me that stank face I get when I hear some hard dirty riff or breakdown. Calling it metal is an understatement cus it feels like 50 subgenres of metal put into one. ... read more
Its a great album but I know coheed could do better than this as they have proven before with their past album and later ones like the afterman and unheavenly creatures.
