I’m not breaking any new ground by saying this, but Remain in Light is a perfect album. It’s just so incredibly enjoyable from start to finish without a single sour spot on the entire record. Each half of the album is its own unique experience: The first four tracks are catchy new wave songs with amazing synth work while the last four are far darker post punk songs with a more experimental edge. I used to think the first half was far better, though now I have come to realize that ... read more
3 isn't great, but it's a pleasant, noisy indie record. In addition to this noise it also has a psychedelic edge to it I like on songs like "Sun Hot" and "Summer Bummer," which is an element that I have yet to see in another Car Seat Headrest album. The album is fairly consistent with these elements, and none of the songs really stand out as being that great or that bad outside of "Psst Teenagers, Take Off Your Clothes," which is both an awful title and an ... read more
I don't fully get the acclaim, but Unknown Pleasures is still an album I would say is necessary listening. The opening track on here, "Disorder," is amazing due to its bassline alone. It sets off the cold and dark atmosphere of the album perfectly with its sinister vocals and the previously mentioned bassline, which makes it one of my favorite post-punk songs ever made. "Day of the Lords," "Canidate," and "Insight" follow up the masterful opening track ... read more
This Is Happening, while it may not have the massively popular hits of Sound of Silver, is the most consistent LCD Soundsystem album to date. It starts off quite subtly in "Dance Yrself Clean", which starts fairly quiet but eventually grows into a catchy new wave banger. The track sets the album off on a great start, and it represents the more confident sound on this album compared to their previous records. After this, sadly, we have Drunk Girls which is a far worse song. It's not ... read more
Soundtracks for the Blind is just a maelstrom of sadness. It crushes the soul and ruins your day with its 2.5 hours of despair, desolation, and lots of drone. It's not an album I can easily put in words, as its one that is heavy on the emotions while oddly being relatively light on lyrics and complex instrumentation. I can't properly say what I think about this album as its just too punishing to listen to, but please do listen to it if you want to feel like dirt.
