I'm not someone who really critiques music unless there's an element I don't like, and this track doesn't have any off-putting elements. If I had one suggestion, it would be to pitch down the hi-hat a little or eliminate it altogether because I really like the piano, and the hi-hat takes away from it a tad.
I can definitely hear the Nujabes influence. Good start, keep at it.
Day 12/365
If I could give it a 200, I would. A perfect rap album.
Day 12/365
"I pledge allegiance to the hip hop".
This quote by Method Man summarizes this album so well, an album that any true hip hop head will enjoy.
Day 11/365
Honestly, his voice imitates Ice Cube on this album, but it wasn't bad at all. I liked the production on the first two tracks, Fantastic Voyage and County Line, and it was a good start. There were other decent songs, such as Mama, I'm in Love With A Gangsta, where the storytelling was genuinely pretty good. I also liked the self titled track, It Takes a Thief, and overall I thought it was a solid debut album.
Day 11/365
That Girl is a Slut is perhaps the worst song nobody's ever heard of. The rest of the album isn't really noteworthy outside of that, but I did like Cold Getting Dumb and Back to the Old School. Mantronix's production is pretty hit or miss on this album; the rapping is elementary, but it's to be expected on an album this old. Hip hop was in its early stages at this time, so I'm not really expecting the most out of an MC at this time.
Day 10/365
Really good EP and Ice Cube was sharp on this album with tracks such as Endangered Species, Jacking for Beats, and Dead Homies. Using the Parliament sample, Bop Gun was honestly genius, and it's cool for me as a music fan to recognize a sample immediately.
Day 10/365
Just an impressive body of work from Mobb Deep here. Both Havoc and Prodigy had their moments, but the best track on this album for me is Eye for an Eye. Nas and Raekwon both delivered amazing verses. Producing on this album was on another level as well.
Day 10/365
I rock the mic like a pimp pimps hoes.
True indeed, Guru. Premier's beats were also incredible.
Day 9/365
One of the best debuts by a group all time, as they came with the trademark chemistry they were known for with this album. I really enjoyed this album.
Day 9/365
Conway's verse on I Miss You was so graphic that it was a little unsettling. I liked Stepping Out, Lil Freaks, Rising Sun, and Four Fifteens a lot tho. Overall, I liked this short EP. This feels like a sister album of Yacht Rock 2, which was an EP that I liked a lot. Jay Worthy was pretty good on this album, which is strange because his music really isn't for me.
Captivating beat with a nonsensical verse from MIKE but for some reason it works. I couldn’t tell you why.
Day 8/365
Shing 02 did a great job with his storytelling on this album and Nujabes production is amazing as always.
Day 7/365
There was great production Big Big Body Bes had one of the worst features Ive ever heard on an Alchemist album he fucked up an Alchemist beat on Uptown Aquarium which hurt my soul. Everything else was pretty good tho but I do feel like its a seasonal album, but those are always good to come back to in certain situations.
Day 6/365
Emotional album that I wasn’t expecting, maybe if I was depressed I would understand it better but I did like Hunger. The transitions between songs were tight tho.
Day 5/365
While I genuinely enjoyed this mixtape, I have noticed that Jeezy has had the problem of his mixtapes being way too long. I thought there was too much filler but the trap music and theme was really good tbh. Enjoyed it slightly less than the Cant Ban the Snowman album.
Day 5/365
This made me feel like a gangsta. Its cool to see the development of the Atlanta sound but its way too long, I believe it would have hit the same if it were 45 minutes.
