This is a hell of a grower. I hated it on first listen but over time I began to "get it."
I hated black metal until I listened to this. Now I only "hate" black metal.
Every time I come back to this it gets better. It's genuinely gorgeous at times and brutal at others. This is what I think all black metal should be compared to. Absolutely peak.
Edit: 84 -> 94
Grew up with this, one of my formative albums.
Masterclass.
"Living off borrowed time the clock ticks faster" is one of the greatest line ever written.
I am likely overrating this, but I honestly do not care. This soundtracked my middle school-high school era and will always be special to me.
The lyrics are beautiful and paint a picture of what Slaid Cleaves was trying to convey. Love this record dearly.
This is very underrated somehow.
I wish I could share memories so I could explain the impact that this album has had on me because English is too limiting of a language for me to do it justice.
