Genuinely can't believe this exists. We are so blessed in the year of 2026 to have another boards of canada release. top 3 songs are blood in the labyrinth, arena Americana, and father and son. father and son has weird ass vocal samples that normally I would tend to dislike, but for some reason, I really enjoy here. actually, I know the reason- it's freakin boards of canada, they always excel at everything they do. Blood On The Labyrinth is my #1 because that one synth they use is ... read more
I suppose this is the best of the tomorrow's trilogy, but honestly all of them are very similar in my eyes. They are interesting enough on their own, but definitely don't stand up to the highs that son lux was doing before this. I did quite like Come Recover though- that one was really nice, possibly my favourite of the entire trilogy, though undertow from I would probably compete with it. and honestly, at least half the songs on bones, lanterns, and we are rising outshine all the ... read more
sadly I do think this is slightly weaker than tomorrows 1 :/ once again it's really lacking songs with a punch, not that slower son lux songs can't be good, but they just feel... idk, they feel sort of lacking. I do still quite like live another life and apart, those are good, but everything else feels forgettable.
I think this is probably one of the weakest Son Lux albums honestly- it certainly isn't bad, but almost all of the songs are slower and more melancholic, and I do kind of feel that they don't always stick. That isn't to say they're all bad, cause I am still quite fond of Last Light and Undertow, but that's mainly because I really like the beats in both of them. Even then, you can kinda feel that they last for a while, which considering they're only 5-6 minutes ... read more
Finally, I've completed every single Babuchan album. I liked this! It wasn't my favourite thing ever from Babuchan, but still had some really fun and explosive songs. I think this specific style of 2010's sort of glitched out underground Japanese experimental production is some of my FAVOURITE type of sound ever- I really hope babuchan goes back to this type of this sound if they ever come back.
There isn't a single song that is boring on this album, that's all I can say. I either feel quite positive, or quite negative on every single song, and thankfully, for the vast majority of songs, that's quite positive. Angel Echo and Protoflicker are my top two, but I can't stand the run between glitch switch to alismonitos lethaeus.
Another very solid album from Namasenda that I honestly find to be pretty much on par with her last album, or I guess, mixtape. She has really good vocals that honestly work extremely well with the type of bubblegum bass production that she brings. I never find it to be like incredible or on another level like some other artists in the genre, but still, she's one of the better ones.
Pretty good album from Gupi! Definitely sits at around 2nd or 3rd fav project by them. (None is #1, and then either this or you're it is #2) While this album is possibly a little bit bloated with unnecessary tracks, the ones that do hit are pretty great. Massive fan of the idgaf vibes o "hide" that one has got to be my favourite, though "going out", "I guess", "bff" "fanfare" and "Gaia" are also pretty sick. Overall I definitely ... read more
Once again, I find that my biggest criticism of Loraine James is that she is really good at the sound design aspect, but she just doesn't bring her ideas together in a very cohesive way. So many of these songs just feel like they kinda meander about.
Massive W for transfem musicians here!!!
When it comes to the super weird experimental/avant-garde electronic music, in my mind at least, there has always been a very clear divide between the studio artists, and the self produced bedroom artists, like, much more-so than other genres I'd say, and it's generally very very uncommon for "bedroom" experimental artists to blow up / go viral. With other genres, I feel like it's still uncommon, but less so- for instance, ... read more
This is a very pretty album that I honestly cannot rate. When it comes to music, a big factor for me is the replayability factor, ie do I want to listen to this album again, do I want to listen to the songs again, etc. Albums like these do not exist for that replayability factor- they exist to be serene auditory experiences. In my mind, they exist outside the realm of music, as more of an artistic experience, the intention is so different, that it feels impossible to rank it alongside other ... read more
R&B x Electronic Dance music is sick. Love NOIRE especially, that one is sooooo weird in all of the best ways, easy standout on this album for me, though I also quite like DEAD, MY TYPE, and THE BPM. Though... I can't lie, I do feel a lot of the songs are a bit forgettable, and one, "MS PAC MAN" is just Outright Bad. But still, this album has some interesting stuff to offer so I'd say it's worth a listen.
Fairly solid album, definitely not one of the stronger ones from Son Lux though. I am an absolutely massive fan of the song Dream State- I think this is one of the best son lux songs of all time, but the rest of the album doesn't quite match up to it- there's a lot of songs here that I honestly find fairly dull, for instance labor, slowly, aquatic, all of these feel much more slower and lethargic compared to son lux' other material, not that slower is necessarily worse, after all ... read more
Tourist Mind popped up on my radar and that song highly intrigued me, but the rest of the album didn't live up to that. Reminded me a lot of a lot of other artists I do quite like, Ioanna Gika, and Kelly Lee Owens in particular, but not as good as them imo.
I think this is a fun album. Nothing amazing, just overall fun. I think when this album leans into it's more rock oriented side, it loses me a bit, but that's more due to personal tastes than actually being less good.
A fairly solid neoperreo/deconstructed club album that I wish did a bit more. I've heard some of safety trance's singles really go crazy and this album doesn't reach those heights, but it's still decently interesting.
it's like. semi interesting. but there's honestly so much better stuff in this kinda genre and sound. listen to Katie gately instead.
The best way I can describe this album is machine girl crossed with sophie. If either of those artists are appealing to you, I strongly recommend checking this out. The sound design on these songs is fucking nuts. It combines a lot of elements from a lot of different genres. The bubblegum bass is the most obvious, but there's a lot of hard trance, breakcore, and even singeli elements to it- singeli a genre which I've only learned about this year. All of that combines into this ... read more
Fairly decent album, though I can't lie I do feel a lot of these songs have a tendency to blend into each other. The beats and instrumentation feel very samey sounding, which I suppose you could argue is a level of consistency, but in this case, I think it detracts from the album a bit. My favourite song is City Glow, because I feel it is the most unique one with the odd background fuzz, and a sudden beat breakdown in the second half.
