Sleigh Bells - Treats
87

While the actual movement and build of these songs is very minimal, the sound design makes up for it on all fronts. There is so much crunch in this album, it's so, so tasty. "Kids" and "Crown On The Ground" especially... these two just go nuts. Apart from Straight A's, I really love the mixing on the guitars throughout this album. It sounds so... clean and non muddy, it just pierces through the air, it almost sounds like a synthesizer instead of a guitar. The beats ... read more

崎山蒼志 [Soushi Sakiyama] - good life, good people
72

Decided to check this out because of the sasuke haraguchi features, and it did not disappoint. loved ending routine a lot, that was an easy fav. also really liked ダイアリー and 人生ゲーム, those two were my other favs. The first one of which is this insanely gnarly 25 second long deconstructed club bridge that just goes insanely hard, I wish that part was extended lol. Overall pretty solid.

jigitz - don’t come back
77

This is a nice album. It does pack a lot of punch into its short runtime, even though there are some songs I'm kinda eh on, it doesn't feel like it wastes any time at all. my favourite is very very far and wide the closer, "last time". Absolutely killer, gorgeous track. Second favourite is "you'll come back" which reminds me soooo so much of old pc music, the pitched up vocals and the fast paced production just bring me right back to that era. One thing I ... read more

NTsKi - Calla
61

I love the cover art, but unfortunately I think this is NTsKi's weakest album. I enjoyed the weirdly dark Field Of Flowers, and the short but sweet 2023, everything else ranged from okay to completely forgettable. If you're interested in trying NTsKi out, I'd recommend her 2025 album, Euphoria first.

aya - Lip Flip
72

I liked this. A bit of weird deco club. I wouldn't say it's as interesting as the deconstructed club mayhem on Aya's latest album, hexed though, it's still pretty fascinating.

Son Lux - We Are Rising
91

Soooo sosososo good. The mix of classical and electronic instrumentation comes together to give this album such an interesting vibe- not one that is unique to other son lux albums, but one that hits for me nearly every single time Son Lux does it. There's always a certain intensity that really resonates with me, both when it's used to create euphoric moments, such as Let Go and Rebuild, and when it's used to create despair inducing moments, such as Flicker, and Claws. Even when ... read more

friends& - folx
76

This album is so aggressively Canadian I love it lol. Multiple times they mention specific places and in my mind I was like "hey I've been there before. Do these guys live in the same city as me????" anddddd they do! I generally tend towards longer songs, as I often feel like shorter songs don't have enough time to really sink their claws into me, and as expected, that was probably my biggest complaint about this album, but I can tell that that completely not the point of ... read more

Squarepusher - Kammerkonzert
52

Sad to say that this square pusher album is not something that personally interests me. I found some songs enjoyable, such as K2 Central, K4 Fairlands, and K13 Vigilant, but a massive selection of songs went in one ear out the other I'm afraid.

Carpenter Brut - Leather Temple
47

honestly I didn't think synthwave could be a genre where you could put it on and completely forget you're listening to it, but carpenter brut managed to do that somehow. what a snooze

goreshit - hybrid monster machines of the lesser spotted bastard
77

Really good! My fav album from goreshit yet tbh. I really like this more industrial side of his work. Fav songs are the first and last songs, funnily enough.

93

I am INCREDIBLY impressed with this album. I am not generally a fan of folk music. Nor am I generally a fan of rock music. But clearly, I am a fan of Brazilian folk rock music. Actually, calling this "folk rock" is doing this album a disservice. It's so much more than that. In fact, I would argue that this is probably one of the most important modern albums to hear. It's not my favourite, it's not my personal AOTY, but I do think this is probably my #1 pick for ... read more

Stickerbush - Leaper
65

vocals are eh. production is pretty sick. love the glitchiness of it. while this album has less highs than the sidepeices album that dropped earlier this year, it's miles more consistent, which gives it an edge for me, despite the fact that I usually prioritize highlights over consistency.

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA
76

Wow, I was not expecting this album to go the synth wave/electro clash direction, I'm used to the more hyper pop side of Slayyyter, but I can't deny that it translates extremely well! I really love the crazy vibes of this album. My favourites are CRANK, YES GODDD, GAS STATION, I'M ACTUALLY KINDA FAMOUS, BEAT UP CHANEL$, and BRITTANY MURPHY. I see a surprising amount of similarities in these songs to other dark electronic artists- much of the production on many of these songs ... read more

Lauren Auder - Whole World As Vigil
67

Not Lauren's strongest work tbh, but still pretty nice. I'm fond of the first song and the last song more than anything. Her vocals are always consistently fantastic though!

Son Lux - Bones
91

What the hell? This is so underrated! Easily one of Son Lux's best albums. I absolutely love the experimentation on display here! There's a lot of really interesting textures on display, and I really like the mixture between classical and electronic elements, they mix together in a lot of really fun ways on this album. The beats are also super super cool, I love the way each of these songs flow. There's a lot of really dramatic tension everywhere, and I think some people might ... read more

Burial - Burial
68

very obviously not his best work but it's still interesting in its own right and worth listening to. Though, I do think the song Spaceape is SEVERELY out of place on this album, that should have been a separate single. Fav tracks are Distant Lights, Wounder, and Southern Comfort.

Burial - Comafields / Imaginary Festival
75

Comafields is an absolute treat. Love the dark ambience on this one, the way it continues to build its atmosphere is so good, and I love the choice of vocal samples too. Imaginary Festival is okay.

World's End Girlfriend - Helix of Frequency, Phenomenon of Love and Void
72

Sweet Suicide Syndrome is pretty nice. The other two are okay. All in all pretty solid, definitely not W.E.G's best work or anything but I still like it.

Kiss Facility - KHAZNA
74

so! kiss facility! I must admit, I wasn't the most familiar with their work before going into this album. However, I AM familiar with Sega Bodega's work, he's one of those musicians for me that I can't help but follow whatever he does, because he always manages to sustain my interest even when he's doing stuff that is not usually up my alley. I'm a massive fan of his albums Dennis and Romeo- that kind of experimental deconstructed club type vibe is some of my ... read more

Mystery Skulls - Maximum Joy
53

yeah I gotta be honest this felt very nothing burger to me. I listened twice and not a single song really made an impact on me. I didn't dislike anything at least...

"absolutely stellar review"
On Sega Bodega - Dennis
"Yeah exactly. In Sega's music, he tends to embrace a really feminine side of being a man through both the production and the lyrics, which is much more typical of LGBT artists since this music and the themes tends to habit a more gender fluid space associated with the LGBT (part of the reason why I like it cause I'm gay lol). Ultimately to me it doesn't really matter if he is straight or not, the music is incredible, it was just kind of surprising lmaooo"

"no problem and ofc yeah, she was one of the first queer people that I really looked up to and made me feel comfy in my own body as a queer person so it hit really hard but I take solace in the fact that I am not the only one she impacted in that way with her work"
On BaddieBaphomet's review of SOPHIE - OIL OF EVERY PEARL'S UN-INSIDES
"god when you talked about the day sophie died it brought me right back to that too cause that was also the very first thing I saw when I woke up. I remember back then it was the height of covid so I was sleeping in absurdly late so I woke up just to go to the washroom and checked my phone and that was the first thing I saw and I was so shocked to the core that I could not fall back to sleep whatsoever. Also glad you mentioned Um Um as that has become one of my fav songs of all time and is one of the only ones that is able to consistently make me tear up LOL. Also want to mention Lost Everything by A.G. Cook & EasyFun (and Remi Wolf on vocals) off of their latest album cause that was also dedicated to her, it's another one that really hits me to the core. Really loved this writeup thank you a ton, from one queer person to another <3"
