yeah I gotta be honest this felt very nothing burger to me. I listened twice and not a single song really made an impact on me. I didn't dislike anything at least...
I like it. I think it's solid. Is it as revolutionary as people are making it out to be? ...uh, I don't really think so. Though, underscores has always been an artist that has been up my line only in theory- for whatever reason, there's always been something that has held her music back from connecting with me as much as it connects with other people sadly :( I do think this is probably my favourite project by her, though.
I tried to give this album a chance but I really really did not enjoy it. There's a lot of really interesting sounds and textures but they all come together in an extremely jarring and deeply unsatisfying way. The way the songs on this album flow, not just from one song to another, but within themselves, feel like if you took all of Oneohtrix Point Never's quirks and amplified them to a million. I really really like OPN and I like his quirks, but when that weird disconnected-ness is ... read more
Holy SHIT lol. I was not expecting this to be as amazing as it was. I've never heard of NTsKi, I only decided to check her out because of her affiliation with the Orange Milk music label, run by one of my favourite artists of all time, Keith Rankin, and man, this blew me the fuck away. The glitch pop on display here is genuinely so sick. Number one song has to be Journey 2 Euphoria- holy crap I love the way this starts as a very pretty, very slow song, and then suddenly the bass kicks in ... read more
This album is fascinating to say the least. I think just based on the sheer sound design it's worth listening to if you're interesting in deconstructed club or industrial electronic music. However I can't help but feel as though it doesn't always come together in the most satisfying way? A lot of the songs feel super meandering, which is not good for an album this short. But still, this is an album with a heavy focus on the type of sound rather than the structure, so I might ... read more
Not really sure where to but this release is more rated than the other one so here goes. I really really like this album! death's dynamic shroud is probably my most streamed artist of all time, and Galen Tipton just came off of one of the most elite years I've ever seen an artist have with two albums that hit my top 3 of the year, so this was very highly anticipated for me. And it certainly didn't disappoint! My expectations were actually exceeded with this one- I really liked ... read more
Honestly this has always been my favourite Burial project. People have raved on about Untrue, and while yes that album is fantastic, this one is his absolute peak imo. Come Down To Us is honestly a fucking incredible song, absolutely blows me away every single time.
I've always known about this album for many years, always enjoyed it, but never really fully got into it for as long as I can remember. Honestly, it always eluded me just a bit. But I think I've really grown to appreciate It overtime. Probably the biggest "grower" album for me that I've ever listened to and sat with overtime. Second place in that regard would probably be Vespertine by Bjork. But yeah this is a really phenomenal album.
I've noticed that there's a pattern where my favourite Gorillaz albums are usually the most hated on, and vice versa (minus The Fall cause everyone can agree that sucks). ie, my favourite gorillaz albums are the now now, cracker island, and humanz. Which also happen to be the three that have the lowest AOTY scoring (minus the fall cause everyone can agree that sucks (x2)) I've just always really enjoyed Gorillaz the most when they're doing chill pop a la now now and cracker ... read more
It's OK. I don't really find Apparat's solo material to be as engaging as the collaboration work with modeselektor under Moderat. This album was no exception in that matter, although A Slow Collision was really cool.
I think when it comes to Fraxiom, you kinda have to expect a level of Cringe. I'd say that's part of the appeal of her work. I found it very tolerable, and even fun at most points on last years food house record (minus 1 song), but this album felt extremely overwhelming with it.
Genuinely floored by this album. I'd never heard of this band before, only seeing them get shouted out by Galen tipton on instagram. Now, Galen tipton has quickly risen to be one of my all time favourite modern artists, with her two truly fantastic 2025 albums, both of which cracked my top 3 of the year, so if she's shouting out a project then I damn well will want to check it out. And holy shit, I am so glad I did, because this is phenomenal. I think the mix of glitch pop with some ... read more
I'm quite fond of the sound design on this, Industrial music is something I've always gravitated towards, but I can't help but feel like it doesn't always come together in the most satisfying way. Still enjoyed it though.
pretty good debit album! really fun synth pop. she sort of feels like the second coming of marina, especially with how many Tumblr people I have seen praising her LOL. "head, shoulders, knees, and ankles" absolutely clears everything else on this album for me. "be the girl!" is the runner up. those are an easy top two.
I think this album is the epitome of "good, but not great". Like all of these songs are pretty good. I saved quite a few. I do genuinely like this album overall, there's very few moments where I think it falters. However, there's nothing that really stands out as amazing here. I think if there were at least 2 or 3 tracks that really blew me away, with the strength this album already has, would probably propel it into the 90's for me. 76 is still good though. It's ... read more
I'm really sad to make this ranking. I've enjoyed both of femtanyl's previous EPs, REACTOR and CHASER quite a bit. I had my expectations fairly high for the debut album. I don't tend to listen to singles before album releases, so I basically went in completely blind. And unfortunately.... aggghhhhh I hate to say this.... but this album just feels like a 1:1 machine girl clone to me. AGH! I feel like I took damage just from saying that. I'm sorry guys. I wish I could ... read more
This is excellent! I am extremely fascinated by the sound design here, I find the mix of glitchy elements, footwork, and clearly Tanzanian culturally inspired dance beats to be excellently done. Dance music has never sounded quite like this, and I mean that in the best way. I do think this album suffers a little bit from a lack of focus, especially in the second half, but it still manages to bring out some truly amazing songs. Kazi Ipo is undeniably the best song here, that thing is an absolute ... read more
