2024 sure is looking like a big deal for old grunge projects turning 30, huh.
Superunknown is the 4th album by Soundgarden and feels like the big culmination of the band's hard work right from their early days. Infusing psychedelic elements into the Soundgarden formula of crazy tunings and wacky time signatures (and time signature changes), the project sees all of the band members at the pinnacle of their game, with vocalist Chris Cornell standing tall upfront, with so much power and soul ... read more
I was not prepared for how ahead of its time this album sounded. I always viewed Gaga as being THE big pioneer for the electropop sound of the late 2000's/early 2010s but it seems that Britney was doing this before her. I had been listening to Gimme More recently (which is a phenomenal song, probably her best) and was surprised to find out the album it was from was so acclaimed by the people here. My curiosity peaked and I decided to check out the album to see what the fuss was about, with the ... read more
Fairly torn here. It seems like Em's retracing his steps by going for the "I'm back bitch" vibe of Without Me but it just seems to lack a lot of the charm that makes Without Me so enjoyable. I will at least say that it's good he doesn't seem to be going for the stuttery robot fast rap flow that has bogged down his latest work, but it does seem that he's playing it incredibly safe with everything else here.
Also that chorus is ass.
I'm probably insanely biased when discussing this album but I love this thing so damn much. The back and forth between Chester and Mike Shinoda is absolutely perfect on this project with all the other band members bringing their best too. I was somewhat worried this thing would have aged somewhat badly but shockingly everything still holds up amazingly.
Favourite Tracks: Crawling, In The End, Papercut, One Step Closer, Runaway
Least Favourite: Cure for the Itch (still really good)
Absolutely fantastic. It's so easy to get lost in the ethereal beauty of this project with how seductive and gripping the dark atmosphere is.
