A whole lot of Christmas carols, pretty solid though not quite as accessible as the yearning and aching.
Strongest: To The Friend and True King
Upon revisit, the progress in production and lyrical quality is immense. I've yet to listen to her second album(in fact I haven't got a clue what any of those songs sound like) but this most recent project honestly deserves the praise it got. Oh; and The Diner is just bad guy, but good
Strongest: BIRDS OF A FEATHER, THE DINER, CHIHIRO, SKINNEY, BLUE
Weakest: LUNCH, BITTERSUITE
Come to think of it, this album's a whole lot like Twenty One Pilots blurryface, what with its teenage angst popping out the occasional gem(when the party's over lives up to the hype). The major distinction is that this was, in fact, made by a teenager in their bedroom; while TOP was in the studio with an established discography of more mature and introspective lyricisms.
Yet another step on my journey of discriminating less on music; but while this was a pleasent surprise at times, ... read more
Pretty solid, but as a standard features hater, Plastic Beach was doomed to fall by my hand at the start. Probably should've listened to literally any other Gorillaz album first but whatever. Then again, I wouldn't have been able to hear SUPER FAST JELLYFISH
Strongest: On Melancholy Hill, SUPER FAST JELLYFISH, To Binge
Weakest: Sweepstakes, Welcome to The World of the Plastic Beach, Plastic Beach
I might not click with them, but if I ever meet someone who says they listen to the strokes, I'd think they're pretty dang cool
To be quite frank, the vast majority of this is empty and boring. The only time Wall of Eyes finds any real life is in bending hectic, but that's too little too late
Listened to this album on a group chat with The Lads, and it was hysterical. The guy who recommended it never paid attention to the lyrics before so he was just as shocked as the rest of us about just how abysmal and incel coded that first half is. Bla bla bla is genuinely one of the worst songs I've heard, up there with Imagine Dragons Fear and Alt-J's Hit Me Like That Snare, and most of the other tracks in that first half don't fair much better. Then, for no reason, Mark ... read more
Eh, I suppose it was pretty decent. Hardly anything new for a band that always felt pretty underwhelming with their music; so basically, it's exactly what I expected for Saint Motel. Fine wine pops off though
Strongest: Fine Wine, Low Earth Orbit
Weakest: Stay Golden
A haphazard collection of 10+ old demos successfully bested IDs newest studio album, LOOM. Now yall like to forget the fact these are demos, so I just gotta remind you, most of these were likely recorded on the back of a bus and their production will reflect that. From now on, I'll talk about every song that could have become great, and every song that shouldn't have reached public ears.
Good: Woke has a great Rocks vibe and has a lot of instrumental potential; blacks got the ... read more
Absurdly annoying and headache inducing, watch maruja do the exact same sound AGAIN in 4 tracks that blend into a sad little puddle of mush. Connla's Well is still great, but these guys have got to do something new
Honestly, this gives old school coldplay vibes and the cover art suggests that they love(or really hate) parachutes.
Now that I've finally acknowledged that I like folk, this album's aged much better. Each song continues to blend together but I like the general vibe. And when a song does stick out, that just makes it all the better.
Strongest: Crystals, Blackwater, Empire
Weakest: Slow Life
Quite the outlier among Lord Huron's discography(despite containing many of their classic trademarks), Vide Noir has become the newest sleeper hit on my minds eye. The indie rock mixed with classic folk is a remarkably smooth blend and I can only hope they keep exploring these avenues in the future
Strongest: Lost in Time and Space, Ancient Names(Parts i and ii), When The Night is Over, Vide Nior, Moonbeam
Weakest: Wait by the River
It is, in fact, 70s music made in the modern day. I may not be a big 70s fan but I can appreciate it all the same.(I'd also like to imagine the song Casino catches the vibe of Martian Scorsese's Casino but I'm too lazy to watch that movie and find out)
Strongest: Casino, Greed, Flow
