It's at it's best when The Smile's trying to replicate the magic of Identikit. Even with the help of some fantastic drumming, their attempts are often hit or miss
If I had a nickel for overtime I got pleasantly surprised by a release from two alternative bands on October 4th, I'd have TWO nickels.
The Smile has never really been my jam. Most of their songs sound like demos that were never fully produced, which is really quite a shame since I love the style they're attempting on most albums. Doesn't look like I'm even alone in this opinion, others are surprisingly quick to critique and judge the songs in comments on yt and ... read more
Honestly, one of the most pleasent surprises I've had(and needed) in a while.
The singles really did this album dirty, and I was fully expected Moon Music to be bland and tepid, just like MOTS. Instead, I got this genuinely sweet collection of tracks bucking the typical Coldplay trends. You see, unlike 90% of their discography, Coldplay's Moon Music is not top Heavy, in fact it's the opposite.
Don't get me wrong, the title track is a fantastic intro, reminiscent of ... read more
Boy, I sure wish the album was as good as it's cover art :/
It's gonna take me a while to get behind Muse, if I do at all
Perhaps the most relaxed song he's put out, pulling back on the bombastic and quirk of past releases
Honestly a pretty sweet song I got no problems with. The LOOM deluxe just better not be this and children of the sky
Happy 10th anniversary to our pal TIAY, you were always one of the good ones.
This and AAW are often referred to as siblings, and many debate about which is better. I'll be frank and say TIAY lacks the same cohesion as it's predecessor, yet still has many of the same highs. The Gospel of John Hurt and Pusher especially are brilliant.
Even so, the album finds itself too off balance to compete with AAW. Even The Dream, with its balanced and seamless tracklist overtakes TIAY as my ... read more
Exactly what I predicted: A hybrid of Time 2 and Subliminal. Now we just gotta hope they put a remastered time 2 in this next album
There's a musical number in here that's straight up bumpin!
Instantly better than anything in WDWEUWLGO, really looking forward to this autumn themes ep
Oh look, 3 of da best Vessel songs, if only they had fake you out and trees tossed in there, then they'd have 5 songs
Finally, every Coldplay album completed, top to bottom, and I'm noticing a pattern. X&Y is just AROBTTH but more synths(and not as good), AHFOD is just Ghost Stories(but not as good), MOTS is everyday life(but not as good), and now Mylo Xyloto is just Viva La Vida(but not as good).
Whatever this pattern means for moon music, I think I need a bit of a break from Coldplay right now, even though I know full well I won't take it. Whatever, Mylo peaks at the first four and last two ... read more
No idea why, but these albums only really vibe with me when they're a package deal
Hmm, I'm thinking a solid Very Ape out of 10 on this one. Don't think it was until the monkey song that I really got into the mood for an album of this vibe/tone and I think I'm going to need to sit on this before I give it any real score right now.
Strongest: VERY APE, Heart-Shaped Box, Dumb, All Apologies
Weakest: Scentless Apprentice
Lord Huron knows the vibe, and the fun interludes really help split this album apart from its constitutes. I can actually see myself coming back to these, which is such a bizarre sensation.
Strongest: I Lied, Long Lost, The Moon Doesn't Mind, Love Me Like You Used To, Not Dead Yet
Weakest: Meet Me In The City
When I heard this for the first time I thought, "neat message, but we don't really need to speak out about that nowadays" which really just proves the opposite.
While it does peak at it's opener and closer, suffering from a sleepy middle, Black Match's debut is a solid introduction. Here's to hoping they keep making music
Strongest: Nowhere, Come Back To Me, Same Old Things
Weakest: June :(
