Honestly, the fans are just insufferable here (bet you 100 dollars someone whines about how I just don't get the album)
Been on a Vian Izak resurgence recently, ironically because the newest album really didn't live up to much for me. But man, these first two albums just have some magic to them
Strongest: In the Shadow, The Navigator, Sleep
Weakest: Midnight Dance
How exactly am I going to rate this like other albums? I'll just treat it as an auditory movie and score it that way
Man, this really is one of Vian's best and perfectly captures what set him apart from other indie artists back in the day. Sadly, I feel that identifying really lost itself after ATWWB, but we still have albums like this to come back to
Strongest: The London Air Raids, Little Lost, Starlit Summers Eve
Notably more angst in this debut than Vale's usual outputs. Really is a strong entrance, and holds up to repeated listens
Strongest: Everything is color, Birdsong, Fractions
Finally nudged it into the green, hope I made the lads proud.
Still insist it ends on a dud though, and the albums still overhyped, and a moon shaped pool is way better, and I swear I'm not a radiohead fan, I just happen to like SOME of their albums like The Bends and Amnesiac and Hail to the Thief and In Rainbows and A Moon Shaped Pool and--
Strongest: Electioneering, Airbag, No Surprises
Weakest: Climbing Up the Walls, Lucky, Tourist
If this ain't The Dream, then I ain't human!
Seriously, this "slow" and "boring" album should be bottom of the barrel for someone as picky with music as me, but the vibes and tone is just too palpable. Every single song on this album captures different kinds of dreams/hallucinations in such unique ways.
Bane as the fever dream; The Actor as aspirations unfulfilled; Chicago and Philadelphia as moments of realization upon one's death, U&ME being a ... read more
Don't forget they could've just self produced this like S+M but noooo.
Mattman and Robin really don't do this album many favors, and many songs sound chopped up and strung together. Assuming origins is the standard an ID album must reach to be solid, LOOM simply falls short. Truth be told, only a third of this album is really worthwhile, just like with evolve. I'm just disappointed, I thought we were past this
Strongest: In Your Corner, Don't Forget Me, Fire in These ... read more
You exist for the sake of doing so, and I've forgotten you're even in this room
Really can't say the songs have anything that makes them stand out besides the opener and Little Talks.
Strongest: Dirty Paws, Little Talks, King and Lionheart
Weakest: Love love love, from finner
Here's to hoping this makes it to the S+M tenth anniversary edition.
Idk, this is... sure something. Some songs sound like crackhead owl city songs, which is odd. The second half really picks up though; the most rebellious songs are the best ones which should be a given in an album about throwing a coup on your crazy cult worshipping landlords.
Strongest: Navigating, Next Semester, At The Risk of Feeling Dumb, The Craving
Weakest: Backslide, Vignette
Edit: What was going on in my head when I wrote this?
Paul Atreides, before we land on Arrakis I must warn you; these Fremen listen exclusively to dream rock
Alright, there we go! Back on the path with Next Semester. A friend of mine said this was a highlight on the album and I can now see why
