First time the overture is decent, wonder if they keep it up. Sounds like the beta Half Alive here, which makes up for the usual junk. The mixing is also really bad in some songs
Favorites: Bummerland, Way less sad
Distastefuls: Ordinaryish people, 3 o'clock things(pretentious and so full of itself it hurts) Christmas in june
Competent open and close. To be honest, this is not bad, but man does it not hold up for me. Beats is downright horrible too.
(Upon revisit, found this more charming like 14 year old me remembered. Not amazing by any means, but I understand the appeal and respect what they went for)
Favorites: Finale, karma, don't throw out my Legos
Distastefuls: BEATS, Turning Out Part ii, Dear Winter
No one can really get mad over owl city. It's not possible. Anyway, this was pretty good, albeit with a few filler tracks.
Favorites: fireflies, cave in, tidal wave, hello Seattle
Distastefuls: the saltwater room, the tip of the iceberg
"Let's just cut out two of the best parts of the song!"
oh ok, then you deserve to get the best of the rating chopped off
Give this a few more listens, and I'll bet you 50 dollars it'll grow on me more.
Yep, I was right; it grew on me upon repeat listens, but the ending does drag the pace down. Knots ultimately failed to deliver on the expectations it set; ironic since that's typically the sort of sound I enjoy.
Favorites: sorry4dying, Born Yesterday, Fantasy world
Distastefuls: Knots
Would've made for a better debut than Night Visions if you ask me. Then again, this one doesn't have tiptoe so...
Favorites: Pantomime, Leave Me, Amsterdam
Distastefuls: Tokyo (one of their worst to be frank)
They went both in the right and wrong direction on the production on this one; but at its best, said production is real charming
Favorites: All Eyes, Hear Me, Emma*
Distastefuls: Selene
"She barely knew your name!"
Now that's a strong debut, although they clearly haven't gotten the production down just right yet.
Favorites: I Need a Minute, Cover Up, Curse
Distastefuls: hole inside our chests, uptight
Definitely the sort of album a teenager would listen to, with a few songs that will age like wine. Plenty of solid stuff in this album though it is held back by occasional lapses of immaturity and childhood angst.
Favorites: Hometown, The Judge, Goner, Ride
Distastefuls: Doubt, we don't believe what's on TV
ID retrospective: are they as good(or bad) as I remember?
Everyone says their albums are good for car commercials? Well I say this one's perfect for mowing the lawn. Also, that car commercial "criticism" is stupid. Blasted videotape by radiohead could be used in a car commercial, whether a song fits is based on the creativity of those making the commercial.
Also, some of these songs are actually real smooth, like only and cool out, and some stuff really should've been left in the ... read more
ID Retrospective: Are the albums as good(or bad) as I remember?
If people just dropped the mindset of "everyone else dislikes it therefore it can only be a guilty pleasure of mine", this album would be more well regarded. Just looking at the average scores given to the tracks on this site you can tell people enjoy this album more than they let on, only lowering ratings because "It's Imagine Dragons"
You can't really compare ID albums to others as easily since they really ... read more
ID retrospective: are they as good (or bad) as I remember?
Yep, still overrated, yet overhated
My previous review was rather accurate, though I found myself having been too kind to some songs and too harsh to others. This really is a strong debut, and platzman's presence elevates it and really helps it stand out from the eps. Platzman himself appears not to have been part of the writing process (being such a recent eddition and all) but he looks more than excited to be a part of whatever they ... read more
Why on earth is this so good? All the other albums from radiohead I like needed weeks to grow on me, but this was just great right out of the gate. I haven't got any complaints here, only that A punch up at a wedding was kinda boring.
Strongest: 2+2=5, Where I End and You Begin, Go To Sleep, Backdrifts
Weakest: A Punch Up at a Wedding, Myxomatosis
I agree with the general consensus that the track list could use some trimming, and the production has dipped since Now, not yet. And time 2 deserved better. But I must say this album really holds up upon repeat listens and I quite like it despite its low points
Strongest: Conditions of a Punk, Summerland, Yosemite, I'll stop, What's Wrong
Weakest: Bad thoughts, Brighton
