Pretty good album considering they fired Jason Cropper from the band for having a girlfriend
I remember hearing this around the time I was 12 or so in the car and I thought it was quite a solid punk album ngl
They made the group to try and pull it's members away from their respective drug issues but 3 of them are no longer with us sadly.
The lineup is insane with Mark Lanegan (Screaming Trees) AND Layne Staley (Alice in Chains)AND Mike Mccready (Pearl Jam)
Members aside, the album is really well done both lyrically and musically with Wake up being assumed to be about Staley's heroin problem that ended up killing him.

My favourite album by this band.
Particularly Jars, Sleep Apnea and Mexican Sun
This album is full of emotion and it makes you think about the lyrics and Airbag's stringed opening with the grindy guitar layed under it is just a perfect way to start an album
You can tell they were still finding their sound but its still pretty solid as it stands
My favorite Alice In Chains album simply for the fact that it can go from depressive grating distortion to a trumpet playing taps then to a blend of acoustic then electric guitar and I like to think of it as a collection of everything they learned while making the 3 albums before this one
Sadly this and Sap are the last two albums with Layne as the vocalist.
Actually shed a tear to the last track for some reason upon first hearing.
Some songs really show Staley's glam rock side and its pretty evident they don't fully know what they want to be yet but that's to be expected from a first album
all the solos are just a verse transcribed onto the guitar but its still a solid album
(i will not speak about hash pipe)
Good album I would say seeing as it's sort of outside my usual music
Borderline depressing album and yet it's still one of the best "grunge" albums ever
vocals on god smack are slightly annoying
