If this didn't have the Radiohead connection it'd be rated a 70 at best. I have no desire to return to this (though Bending Hectic was cool)
The National return to form on their second album of 2023 with their best work since Sleep Well Beast
Yeah, I think it's safe to say that Metal Gizz is the best Gizz. It's wild looking back at their "What's In My Bag?" video and see Cavs talking about how his double bass pedal technique isn't there yet, and hearing what he did on this record just a handful of years later. The drumming is insane on this record, the riffs are there in full force, the vocals and production are also fantastic. This album is a masterpiece. Spearheaded by comedian James Acaster, Temps is a musical collective of over 40 musicians. The hype sticker on the vinyl calls it "orchestral-punk electro-shoegaze" and I immediately thought "huh that actually sounds fucking awesome."

It's nice, but essentially just sounds like Phoebe, Lucy, and Julien songs, instead of a true collaborative sound.
Love the blending of shoegaze, indie, and alt-country on this record. Never heard anything like it before.
Production: fire
Beats: fire
Only complaint is that I could've used more Danny Brown, at times it feels like a Peggy album with Danny Brown features than a full blown collaboration. But man, this is fun
This surprised me - I liked Drunk Tank Pink but it didn't really stick with me like other records from that year. This record is much more mature sounding - a welcome evolution resulting in one of the best 2023 releases to date.
Too hit and miss, it's basically a boring Song Machine 2. While Song Machine was full of incredible songs, Cracker Island just sounds like a low effort follow up.
