Black Belt Eagle Scout - The Land, the Water, the Sky
50

I really wanted to enjoy this album, and I genuinely like the instrumentation for most of it, but the vocal production and mixing on the first two tracks is so bad that I really turns me off of the whole album. Treeline is a standout that I'll likely continue to return back to, however.

The Go! Team - Get Up Sequences Part Two
70

Of all of The Go! Team albums, this is certainly one of them

파란노을 [Parannoul] - After the Magic
88

While not featuring as many (or as high) highs as To See The Next Part of the Dream, Parannoul's follow up is still a fantastic piece of shoegaze. His production skills are really top notch in the genre and he continues to show his knack for melodies is really second to none.

The Murder Capital - Gigi's Recovery
86

Irish post-punkers The Murder Capital follow up their fantastic debut When I Have Fears with an even better record in Gigi's Recovery. The songwriting feels like a natural progression for the band, featuring dark and brooding baritone vocals, layered guitar textures, and easily the best bass tone on a post-punk album in recent memory. The buildups in songs like Crying, Ethel, and Gigi's Recovery are perfectly executed and result in some of the most stunning moments on the record.

Weyes Blood - And In The Darkness, Hearts Aglow
96

Holy fuck this is incredible - I think it's even better than Titanic Rising. My only complaint is that the album is a bit front loaded, It's Not Me-Hearts Aglow is as good of a 5 track sequence as you can get. If the second half, which is still VERY good, was a bit better, this would've been a 10.

King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard - Changes
80

Yeah it's about what you would expect. Not gonna blow you away, but incredibly consistent and fun.

Favorite tracks: Change, Astroturf, Gondii

Shabason & Krgovich - At Scaramouche
83

Shabason & Krgovich join forces once again on this LP, which continues the dreamy, new age textures found in their 2020 record "Philadelphia" - one of my top 5 records of that year. In "At Scaramouche," the songs are more light-hearted and fun, but still feature the same crystal clear production and intricate songwriting I've come to expect from this duo.

Björk - Fossora
85

Yeah, it's good.

Courting - Guitar Music
75

solid post-punk effort

The Comet Is Coming - Hyper-Dimensional Expansion Beam
82

At this point I will just expect to enjoy anything that Shabaka Hutchings is involved in

Crack Cloud - Tough Baby
80

This is weird as shit but not in a bad way

The Mars Volta - The Mars Volta
50

It's not bad, it's just incredibly boring for what used to be one of the most exciting rock bands out there

The Beths - Expert In A Dying Field
84

Nobody does power pop better than The Beths. Expert in a Dying Field is another excellent crop of songs from the NZ band. Catchy earworms, tight vocal harmonies, solid guitar riffs, and crisp production - what more could you ask for?

Jockstrap - I Love You Jennifer B
90

Insanely good experimental pop music. Immaculate production and exciting performances throughout. I'm so glad I decided to listen to this, easily slots into a top 10 AOTY spot for me.

Silversun Pickups - Physical Thrills
75

As a longtime fan I'm pleasantly surprised with a lot of these tracks. It's probably their best album since Swoon

Jack White - Entering Heaven Alive
70

It's okay but not something to return back to outside of a couple of highlights (A Tip from You to Me, I've Got You Surrounded, If I Die Tomorrow)
