Little Simz - GREY Area
90

such an air-tight and fun listening experience. You can really hear the energy in the abrasive style of some songs, while others carry over some of Simz' more chill sounds from previous projects that culminates in such a banger album

Kendrick Lamar - Section.80
76

some very important themes and quality songs for early into Kendrick's career, but a lot of the songs tend to be left forgotten compared to his later efforts

Bon Iver - i,i
77

Still some pretty good Experimental Folk with a couple good stand-out songs. On the whole, though, some of the magic and emotion that really made 22, A Million special isn't quite here.

Childish Gambino - Kauai
65

summery vibe, a couple fun beats and... uh.... yeah that's about it. Really just not a whole lot going on. Throw a couple corny Jaden Smith monologues in for good measure

Metallica - Master of Puppets
87

This kinda goes crazy. Maybe my dad knows what's up

Bon Iver - 22, A Million
92

very interesting direction for Bon Iver into more techno-folk territory. While the dreamier vocal style doesn't overtly strike at emotional themes, the vibes elicit such a strong, indescribable feeling. Almost every track lands, and signals an interesting route for Justin Vernon

Bon Iver - Blood Bank
76

some really nice songs on here, but the overall memorability and charm just isn't quite as there

Bon Iver - Bon Iver, Bon Iver
94

Edit: 84-->87-->94

Edit: over time, this album has grown on me substantially more than any other Bon Iver album to the point that its overtaken his debut for me. The sound is genuinely just so incredible, and the lyrics reveal almost as much depth as For Emma (though still not as much). Some of my all time favourite songs not only by Bon Iver but even of all time are on "Bon Iver, Bon Iver," like Towers, Perth, and Holocene

Eminem - The Slim Shady LP
68

A decently fun listen that just doesn't do a whole lot for me outside of that. It's got a couple catchy songs, some pretty alright production from Dr. Dre, and some VERY questionable lyricism. The "character" of Slim Shady shields of lot of critique of poor taste lyrically, which I constantly flip-flopped on how I felt about while listening. The skits scattered throughout don't really feel like they have much purpose, but that could just be Eminem's humour generally not landing for me

one point for every year old she is

Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago

For an album focused on a relatively stripped back sound, it consistently keeps fresh and enjoyable. Some serious stand out tracks are present throughout, but every song has something to offer

Mac Miller - The Divine Feminine
66

I did enjoy the new sound Mac was going for on this album, but something just didn't quite click with it for me. It felt like it was somewhat forcing the "artsy" approach. I don't necesarily mind how ungodly horny the songs were, but the subject matter grew repetitive kinda quickly. I can't deny the fact that listening to an hour of someone singing about how happy of a relationship they're in also may or may not have influenced my emotions listening

J. Cole - Born Sinner
57

some decent production on some of the songs, but Cole is physically incapable of going one song without saying something unbelievably corny or sometimes offensive

Sweet Trip - Velocity : Design : Comfort.
95

Really creative album that blends the vaguely retro-futuristic "Y2k" type aesthetic with some Aphex Twin and a relatively more conventional "dance"(?) pop formula. The sound is constantly changing and evolving song to song, resulting in a lengthy runtime that doesn't become stale. The sound is incredible, and expertly achieves that early 2000's "Frutiger Aero" vibe that old pc desktops had

Arcade Fire - Funeral
100

This album has truly only grown on me more and more after subsequent listens. The tracklist is so perfectly tight and carries this deeply nostalgic and somehow melancholic yet endlessly optimistic feeling throughout. While Arcade Fires sound has evolved overtime (for better, and more recently, for worse), Funeral stands as a uniquely quality piece of music that has slowly edged out Suburbs as my favourite project of theirs.

Arctic Monkeys - AM
45

Arctic Monkeys sounds like two 43 year olds having sex

I was unfortunately pretty disappointed listening to Grimes' early work. I think their first 2 albums suffered from trying too hard to simply be a "vibe". I think the style and feeling attempting to be evoked is elicited fairly well, but I found Halfaxa struggled to go beyond that aforementioned vibe. The instrumentation ends up being sort of one-note, and the sound tends to sound increasingly more similar song to song. I think that the sound Grimes is going for is cool, it just ... read more

TV Girl - Who Really Cares
70

Sounds pretty good, but the singer comes off as kind of unlikable in a lot of the lyrics. Gives some serious "soft boy" male manipulator vibes. That may be intentional, but it doesn't make me dislike the self-pitying any less

Freddie Gibbs & Madlib - Piñata
88

Madlib absolutely brings out the best in Freddie (as he tends to do with his collaborators) on this project. His amazing production, in my opinion most evident during the middle of the album, mixes great with Gibbs' lyricism to create an absolutely timeless sound

Denzel Curry - TA13OO
94

Incredible production, sound, and lyricism are absolutely what make this album. There's no overarching narrative (I don't think), and I found there weren't many particular standouts in the track list, as the album was incredibly consistent all the way through. Denzel's voice lends very well to this heavier style of hip-hop, and is an artist I look forward to listening to more of in the future
