De La Soul but one of them was a woman
Fun and adventurous production, but a bit confusing as a Danny Brown album. He feels quite non-central for a good duration of the album, and his rapping isnt particularly standout on a cursory level. I do, however, appreciate that he continues to explore conceptual and deeply personal topics through his music as well as employing so many underrated lgbtq artists (and Quadankey)
genuinely just brilliant in almost every element. Instrumentally soaring, and lyrically impactful with a relatively minimal presence of it.
It's sort of a given that a band like Racing Mount Pleasant is going seem so appealing, when its really the most music that music can get. My only complaint is a couple slightly compartively underwhelming songs towards the final stretch
Another great EP from the group. I do hope going forward they can continue to stand out and fully define themselves from their peers
If I can give AJR one thing, it's that their song ideas can be quite different and sometimes creative. Unfortunately, thats where the major positives tend to end. These songs are SO overblown. Every EDM drop is quite painful and the melodrama in songs like Netflix Trip or Weak are next to impossible to take seriously
In my experience, took a bit to get going and find its footing as compared to Songs in the Key of Life which was electric the whole way through. Despite this, Innervisions REALLY goes once it starts and its great for what it is
Before Taylor Swift's Actually Romantic in response to Charli XCX's Sympathy is a Knife, Lynrd Skynrd's response to Southern Man with Sweet Home Alabama was THE premier misguided diss track response
Covid lockdowns brought out either the best or worst out of musical artists, and with Taylor, it was definitely the best.
Taylor writes with a very youthful, highschooler-esque voice, which is perfectly suited to an album about literal teenagers. I think the partial concept direction was a really interesting one for her to go in, and it most definitely makes folklore stand out far more than if it was a straightforward Folk album. Interesting that she writes best when it isn't directly ... read more
You are freakin' African Americans... plus Ginger Baker, but we're rockin' with Ginger cuz he's rockin' with us
Capable of slotting into a lot potential moods, being almost equal measures happy and sad. I think I was in the right state of mind to listen to this when I did; the songwriting is pretty poignant at times and the instrumentation is relatively simple yet effective
This shit is NASTY. It's hard to understand what's being said but every time I checked in on the lyrics its enough to make your skin crawl. Acid Bath seems to relish in this filth, using it to create some slamming and deeply evocative pieces of Metal music. Well worth braving, but not probably for the feint of heart
The greatest strength of After's 2nd EP is the faithfulness in which they are able to replicate these sounds. Outside of that, the EP still remains warm and pleasant
The influences of Bruce Springsteen are apparent and already mentioned to death, so no use dwelling on them. It is a bit funny that an Irish dude is making Americana, but the lyrics were actually surprisingly heartfelt and QUITE unabashedly political at times.
Towards the end of the album, a couple tracks began to dip a bit in quality but the album ultimately stayed fairly consistent all the way through. I (immaturely) expected to be somewhat unimpressed with "Seventeen Going ... read more
I wasn't on board the hate train for Tame Impala's earlier "Slow Rush" album. I thought it was still colorful and uniquely entertaining. On the contrary, not much is very unique about "Deadbeat." It's the first album in his catalogue that sounds like it could have been made by any number of people, which sucks coming from a very singular and distinct discography.
Not much is BAD about the album, which is where I feel some criticism is unwarranted. The main ... read more
My fav lesbian polycule releases a new album and it doesn't disappoint. Many might describe The Last Dinner Party and this style of music as "too much" and it definitely could be in some ways, but I love it regardless
I know for a FACT it requires more listens for me to appreciate the album more. The fusion of Glitch Pop and Flamenco is really really cool, it just didnt "stick" with me in any major way initially
Edit: 76 -->82
Yup
Goofy and very tongue-in-cheek for sure, but its cute and clever and fun; I like it. That McKinley Dixon song was awesome though. I wish it was longer
POiSON GiRL FRiEND almost makes musical asmr. It's somewhat melancholic, but so incredibly calm and dreamy in almost every element
