For as dynamic as this album comes off, there’s still much to be desired. This shouldn’t have been my first ScHoolboy Q album im ngl
edit: genuinely the most disappointed I've ever been with an album. the promotion made it feel way better than it actually was
edit 2: this album grew on me a little bit, the songs I like sound a lot better to me, and even the songs I don't like or don't care for have grown on me slightly. In 7 edits this album might be a 100 haha
Despite Dallon's consistently great performance, it helps little to how aimless, uninteresting, and tacky this album can be. Extremely disappointed in this one, especially after almost 4 years of radio silence from the band.
Even though half of these songs were already released, I am blown away by how consistent and fitting the new tracks are to the full body of work. I have no idea what Quadeca put into the last 4 songs, but it's actually the peakest of music. This absolutely lived up to the hype, and I'd say it even exceeded it.
They weren't lying when they said they were Angry Blackmen
Sadly I think the album's quite repetitive and samey, but it is enjoyable
Well, that was 55 minutes I'm never getting back.
This is genuinely a horrible album. I don't mean that because I'm some "twitter crybaby who's complaining about Kanye's politics", I mean this because oh my god, it's AWFUL. How does an album that has been delayed constantly turn out THIS bad? How does a star-studded cast of producers (MIKE DEAN, No I.D., JPEGMAFIA, Timbaland, James Blake, 88-keys, etc.) make an album that sounds consistently terrible? Especially on the master, I need ... read more
This is a great album that didn't feel that long until the last 4 tracks. Other than that, there was extremely solid experimental production throughout. While it isn't super consistent, many tracks don't overstate their welcome so it still flows pretty well. I'm guessing this was probably not the best album to introduce me to BUSDRIVER, but I'm glad it is.
Making a better Pink Floyd album (in 2023) than Roger Waters himself is the flex of the century
Insanely peak all the way through. It's heavenly, beautifully produced, and masterfully performed. This album should be next to the greats.
started out feeling like that one gif of chuck mcgill being overwhelmed and fainting
then the existential dread kicked in
No other album delivers such a distinct, otherworldly aura than this. "the Glow pt. 2" is a masterclass at creating a perfect atmosphere for the naturalistic vibe it's going for, including the many ups and downs of capturing the forest feel. Using only the most wooden sounding acoustic guitars, dirty drums, harsh synths, and ambient noise, it paints a perfect soundtrack for the wilderness.
The album flows together extremely well, even if it's taking the scenic route in terms of ... read more
A surprisingly dynamic and entertaining big song from Death Grips. There's not a lot more you could ask for.
As someone who's listened to most, if not all, of Barrington's work, "Darkskin Manson" is by far his most inaccessible. Not necessarily by the fact that it is hard to access (which it is, since it's not on the JPEGMAFIA Bandcamp, and there's no reuploads there either), but specifically because it's loud, abrasive, and overall extremely discomforting to listen to. The mix is ass, the beats are strange, and his vocals are often manipulated and chopped, creating this "dark web" ... read more
