Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Mirror to Mirror)
100

When I first learned about Will Toledo's music, I fell in love with how rough and unfinished his noise was. The comparison of this album sounding like he recorded it in a broken washing machine is incredibly true and I will not deny that for a moment. Even so, there's something so special about this album in its raw form that I will appreciate forever.

- favs : My Boy (!!!), Bodys, Beach Life-in-Death

Big Thief - Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You
90

I relistened to this album for its 4th year anniversary and it is still just as incredible now as it was then. It may be 80 minutes long, but the time is going to pass anyways. This is the perfect record to play in the background and connect with the world around you.

- favs : Simulation Swarm, Spud Infinity, Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe In You, Certainty
(hearing adrianne lenker sing simulation swarm in real life was a moment i will never ever forget)

Haley Heynderickx - I Need to Start a Garden
94

Haley Heynderickx poured her entire soul into this album, laying it out flat for everyone to see. I could spend hours dissecting each lyric of every song, but this record goes beyond that. In interviews, she described writing the song, "Worth It" as a cathartic release, "allowing myself to take up space and make as much noise as I could" That is what this album feels like to me. Every song feels unapologetic and open, guided by her emotions rather than following a polished ... read more

Vashti Bunyan - Lookaftering
90

This album feels like the warmest hug. I never expected that she would be able to make an album on par, let alone better than her previous successor Just Another Diamond Day 30 years before!! Vashi Bunyan is a timeless artist that has never lost sight of her voice and I am so happy we got to hear more.

Update: 82 -> 90, this is such a special record

- favs : Feet of Clay, Hidden, Lately, Wayward Hum

Radiohead - Amnesiac
81

Kid A, Kid B, who cares!!! I love this album. What I would give to be 15 and listening to this for the first time again.

- favs : Life in a Glasshouse (my favourite radiohead song ever), Like Spinning Plates, Pyramid Song

Deadharrie - Blissless
76

In Blissless, Deadharrie produces a lo-fi slacker rock sound with whispered vocals and a lot of xylophone. This is the type of music that I feel can only be fully appreciated depending on how close you were with your high school guidance counsellor. Shoutout to all of you counsellors out there, artists like Deadharrie are keeping you employed! Anyways, I really like this album. I'm never necessarily amazed or wowed by the overall LPs that he releases, but there are a lot of standout tracks ... read more

Joji - Piss In The Wind
67

Joji’s music just pisses me off. He creates so many interludes that sound like the perfect start to a really wonderful song, and then they end before they go anywhere. He has seriously mastered the art of edging in music and I hate him for it.

Joji is an incredibly talented artist, but I've always said that "he's capable of so much more.” It gets to a point where when he's consistently releasing albums that are just okay, maybe this *is* what he's capable ... read more

Searows - Death in the Business of Whaling
97

I am so unbelievably in love with the noise that Alec and Trevor created with this album. Searows to me has always been very solemn, cradling yourself in the dark type of music. I kept thinking, how could he follow Guard Dog? And then he made this. Somehow he managed to capture an even deeper feeling than I ever thought possible.

There are so many lines throughout this album that had my jaw dropped at the screen, but nothing more than this line from Geese;

"And there's a hole in ... read more

deeper sleeper - deeper sleeper
95

Was nobody going to tell me that Joshua Harmon, lead singer of The Backseat Lovers, aka my favourite band in the entirety of the world, has solo music? Stumbling across this album felt like being handed something I didn’t even realize I’d been waiting for. If you love Morning in the Aves… prepare yourself, this album is for us.

There’s something quietly special about Deeper Sleeper, Joshua Harmon’s self-titled debut album. It’s made up of songs he wrote ... read more

The Microphones - The Glow Pt. 2
100

I feel as though I'm there with him getting mauled by that bear.

The Glow, Pt. 2 has been interpreted in MANY ways by listeners over the years. The general consensus I've found is that this album follows the aftermath of a boy whose relationship has ended. He embarks on a journey through the woods, seeking a connection with nature and hoping to regain peace within himself. He longs to find comfort in solitude; however, the woods do not provide this solace he's been searching ... read more

Harrison Whitford - Afraid of Nothing
93

This album feels incredibly intimate, though the production feels high quality and every instrument is so well thought out, it's like I'm sitting in his room hearing him play the songs on his guitar. I deeply respect how he creates music based on intuition rather than careful planning. How he approaches songwriting as a whole is fascinating and this album truly showcases how deep and full his understanding of emotion in music is. I've been listening to this LP on repeat for the ... read more

Purity Ring - shrines
78

DAAAMN I didn't know Purity Ring had a pen game this strong?? Every single song back to back had insane lyrics that I really had to research and deep-dive to understand. The best part of this album for me are all of the different meanings that people have applied to each track. There are elements of witchcraft, religion, love, loss, and lots and lots of anatomical poetry. They create music within such a specific genre of electronica, that I haven't been able to find another artist who ... read more

Bruno Major - A Song for Every Moon
83

This is a very easily digestible album comprised of simple lyrics and soft melodies. With better production I think it could be something quite special in the neo-soul/acoustic r&b world, but I'm still a fan of what it is regardless! The grip this album had on me from 2018-2020 is ill. A lot of the songs sound very similar to one another to the point that it can feel kind of dull at times, but his voice really is beautiful, just less auto-tune next time please - he seriously ... read more

Jordana & TV Girl - Summer's Over
91

Jordana's voice with TV Girl's sound is one of the best things to ever happen to music. She managed to highlight the 'girl', in tv girl. Arguably their most cohesive and consistent piece of work to date.

- favs : Summer's Over, Jump the Turnstile, Better in the Dark

Charli xcx - BRAT

i feel like an egotistical, hot, it-girl every time i listen to this album. thank you charli for shining a light on electro dance-pop again.

- favs : Girl so confusing, I might say something stupid, Sympathy is a knife

Black Country, New Road - Ants From Up There

I can't say anything about this album that hasn't been told by everyone on this website 1000 times over. It's a masterpiece.

- favs : Basketball Shoes, Concorde, Haldern
this is a no skip album, every single song is SO well done

at the end of everything, hold onto anything, and make it last.

Thievery Corporation - Radio Retaliation
83

Incredible politically relevant groovy album. Every song has a unique funky sound, but a cutting message to tell inside of it. I love how no song feels limited to the confines of a genre and each track has its own space to explore different sounds and instruments freely. Epic.

- favs : Mandala, The Numbers Game, Sweet Tides, Sound The Alarm, Vampires,
