Straight up disappointed. GRIEF sounds empty sonically; quite an important element of the genre.
Had only listened to their previous album, Fontaines D.C.'s Romance sounds quite soothing and satisfying. With both blends of homages and original sound, they have released a catchy banger.
You know what? I'm tired of being a pretentious snob. Imma be nice.
Sabrina Carpenter's Short n' Sweet is exactly what it says. 12 tracks hitting 36 minutes, no song seems to go anywhere unsafe or venture anyway that far (that's what you get when working with Antonoff though soooo...). In terms of the "bland" sound of radio, her style on this is probably the most charming and entertaining despite its inconsistencies. Not bad but you will desire a fair amount of ... read more
Marshall's songwriting and acoustic lo-fi jazz sound are incredible for a debut. At 19 years old, the fusion of genres, soothing vocals and a unique spin of common tropes of bluesy themes and lyrics are presented to the quality of a seasoned veteran. While some songs stand out superior to others, overall it is a fantastic ... I dunno what to call this album's genre. Just too cool for a label.

"Yeah we live in a society" *proceeds to absolutely fucking kickass on the dance floor*
The irony behind Tenacious D is that they are 1000% a comedy act... however, they still manage to make SUCH GREAT SONGS FOR NO FUCKING REASON! Much shorter than their debut and contains the same level of punch with underrated songwriting and fantastic songs. Overrating this? Most likely. But do I love the D? Well, does a bear shit in the woods (assuming they live in the forest and have no access to public facilities)?
Don't get me wrong, this album is great. Death [the band] is most likely one of the better bands for those wanting to invest in the death metal genre, as their sound of what seems to be thrash metal mixed with elements of hardcore punk and first-wave black metal is approachable. I think my main issue is more of a nitpicky preference rather than a major criticism, mostly with song structuring. Seems like riffs (though quite excellent in other contexts) don't flow necessarily as well as ... read more
There isn't really a dull moment here. Blues/Hard Rock to the max with undeniably one of the greatest songs to be heard [Stairway to Heaven which I shouldn't have to explain why]. I dunno. It's just so groovy and fun while being musically fascinating. Timeless.
I don't know what's changed but my first initial reaction was much higher than upon second listen. I like the minimal pop vibe Frank Ocean goes for on this tho. Still great, but it'd be a while before I return again.
One of the best metal albums to come out of the 2010s, or maybe even the 21st century. Sure, thematically, it's cheesy with Ghost's satanic ritual aesthetic and the heavy metal isn't technically flashy (though I contradict my argument that there are some quite interesting "woah" moments), but just shut up. This is awesome. Embrace the cheese.
Tenacious D's debut is weird in its packaging. I think a good portion of the album is skits that... are entertaining... AND FUNNY?? (most anyways). This, mixed with genuinely some fucking EXCELLENT songs on here, no right to be good as they are (like Tribute might be way better than the song that the song is based on). Fuck it, this rules. Kung Fu Panda.
Hmm. There is a more enjoyable quality to this Merzbow album than the other ones I've listened to. But I can't describe what as they do sound the same (but less right in your fucking ear as Pulse Demon is).
I don't intend to give out 0s to albums I don't like straight away. I'd often try and give albums some brownie points somewhere. But I'll say this in the nicest way I could.
Fuck this shit. Seriously. My ears felt personally insulted from listening to this shit. The first six seconds I got were "Oh this is like sleep token, but somehow much worse" but that progressively changed to "Oh this is a whole new level of garbage." Like, I would discuss some ... read more
Instead of calling out the obvious "offending Gen Z" topic this album portrays, I think I want to add something to it (although I'm sure this has been stated).
Eminem's Horrorcore style in the early 2000s thrived off the vulgarity and offensiveness of his lyrics, leading to some iconic songs that are quoted to this day. Like artists that we might have loved when we were young but grew out of or cringe at when older, people have a nostalgic connection to this sound. Maybe it ... read more
Not familiar with Sturgill Simpson/Johnny Blue Skies but I liked what I heard, even as someone who doesn't like Country music in general (sorry country heads). Seems to explore a wide variety of sub-genres of Country that keeps the album engaging. Nothing more besides good songs on here.
Hey, it's not a complete zero? Jojo Siwa's standard for her debut EP was a bar set so low, it was 100% expected to be shitted on. 'Karma' being the leading single was not a smart business because holy shit the backlash was HORRENDOUS. The production and quality of sound of the ep is alright/average (higher than I expected) but let's get to the meat of this release; Siwa herself. What seems to be a "botched bandwagon effect" that celebrities like Miley Cyrus ... read more
I'd consider The Eraser to be the predecessor to Radiohead's The King of Limbs. Each song has on simple underlying glitchy pop idea that would evolve in variations while Thom Yorke's angelic vocals serenade your ears over the top. Not what you'd expect (without hindsight mind you) to be a consistent element of his solo studio albums but still sounds quite fascinating. The Eraser is one of his best works too (SO catchy).
