I quite like the album cover... and that's where the liking stops. Shit vocals, boring instrumentals that change into ambience music (what the fuck) and mixed poorly (you can hear the differences in the double tracking). Boo.

Uboa - The Flesh of the World
82

Continuing to explore themes of her transgender and other personal experiences, The Flesh of the World has a much more accessible sound compared to her debut album. Although less industrial-focused and more melodic, it doesn't hinder the quality of the sound. Very good EP!

Tyler, The Creator - IGOR
96

Breakup, relationship trouble albums have been written COUNTLESS times - probably one of the most popular lyrical topics... but the creative approach Tyler explores on IGOR is something else. The production is experimentally creative and fits into the main concept behind the album, and Tyler producing the album entirely by himself makes this significantly more impressive. Excellent vibe, amazing lyric, a one hell of a curveball that cements The Creator as a force to be reckoned with.

Travis Scott - Rodeo
89

I was never keen on Trap music, and really still aren't huge on it either, but Travis Scott's Rodeo has changed my perspective on approaching the genre. I mean when listening through the first few songs, there felt some sort of aura that lingers throughout; I don't know what I was sensing exactly, but I FELT it. Production for this is a major attraction as it's rare to hear of such an experimental sound hitting the mainstream successfully (don't quote me on that exactly ... read more

Beach House - Bloom
87

A blissful, awe-dropping dream pop album that is just pure joy to anyone's ears.

I can appreciate the vulgar lyricism and noise rock sound of Big Black's Songs About Fucking (my fav title in the "Songs for/about" collection) but my ears just weren't as invested in this as I hoped. It does, however, highlight the legendary Steve Albini's raw production he was known for. RIP to the master of capturing RAW music.

Foster the People - Torches
81

Unpredictably enjoyed FTP's Torches a lot more than expected. I assumed this would be a "one-trick pony/one-hit wonder" album but instead is a very solid indietronica pop album. Most of the sound on this album (minus Pumped Up Kids, forever a fucked up bop) gives me the impression of a radio-friendly Animal Collective tribute, in a very positive way. An underrated party of pop bops.

Candy Claws - Two Airships / Exploder Falls
87

Candy Claws' two-track album is a well-compacted instrumental album that explores noise pop and production-influenced music neatly. A warm noise wall sensation that fulfills a lot in its half-hour runtime.

I don't know how I feel about this album. Sabbath Bloody Sabbath starts VERY strong with the title track opener... and then it simply fizzles off of any interest at around the end of the 1/4 for me. Sort of zoned out, especially around the synth stuff. A disappointment after such an iconic run of albums.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath Vol. 4
92

Underrated for sure. Vol. 4 is a lot more "experimental" in the standards of the band at the point. From fascinating metal songs to ballads that actually fit in the context of the album, their fourth album is a unique package of great deep cuts and songs that I would happily return to.

Black Sabbath - Master of Reality
85

Black Sabbath seems to fully embrace their new heavy metal invention on Master of Reality with some high bangers being some of their best in their discography, however, are only 'nit-pickishly' diminished by the inclusion of unnecessary and uninteresting "interludes" (I dunno if that's the intention). Also this is the album where drugs heavily affected the band, and that definitely shows through the very stoner feel this album gives off. Great album but with touches of ... read more

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
100

The sophomore response MONTHS after their first album is everything gloomy, heavy, and doomy like the previous, but executed to perfection. Not a dull moment on this, all with timeless classics that any metalhead has to listen to once in their life. The pinnacle of metal music.

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
90

It's weird how many people only talk about how this was the birth of metal, where they don't talk about the actual sound influences throughout. From Ozzy's vocals to Iommi's guitar playing, the "metal" sound is heavily influenced by blues (emphasis on heaviness). For that time, including the cursed tritone that audiences would first hear from "satanic" music, this is instrumentally unique in capturing the eerie atmosphere that would become the major ... read more

100 gecs - 1000 gecs

I once didn't get it once. Now I get it. Yeah fuck.

Lil Mabu - YOUNG GENIUS

Absolute Rubbish 1: Music for Rich White Bratty Kids

There has to be a sense of irony in this, right? It's just wack, corny, "edgy" bars that don't do shit, or convince anyone that Mabu is a decent rapper. I mean, it's just fucking bad ok? And this motherfucker needs a pop filter man. When you say you are spitting bars, it doesn't mean saliva to mic, dumbass. Cold ass shit.

67

I have to say, a collaboration between prog masterminds Steven Wilson and Mikael Åkerfeldt sounds like an interesting, sombre atmospheric journey filled with heaviness and folkish elements. However, the result of Storm Corrosion is underwhelming and lacklustre. The production is average with instrumentals that sound like leftovers from both Opeth and Porcupine Tree, and lyrics not really worth of interest. I would be open to both musicians reigniting this project (I know it's been 12 ... read more

Blanck Mass - World Eater
70

Noisy post-industrial aphex twin vibe? If I could describe it in a sentence? Ideas are fine and the production is quite interesting (also very noisy at times). Besides that, not much to add.

Quadeca - I Didn't Mean to Haunt You
83

It was to say what to expect from Quadeca's IDMTHY, as many factors including him being known as a "YouTube rapper," as well as the mixed combinations of genres that are labelled on this too (like seriously, wild). Everything about this album sounds quite nice I must say; the production, Quad's vocals and the art pop sounds are all executed very well. Concepts lyrically are simple yet told and performed beautifully. Those who doubted Quadeca's abilities as an artist ... read more

BROCKHAMPTON - SATURATION III
75

BROCKHAMPTON's SATURATION III is a good collection of some pop-rap bangers that could be appealing to a large audience, even for those who aren't keen on pop-rap.

Gracie Abrams - The Secret of Us
61

I don't think I can comment much about Gracie's The Secret of Us because it just sounds like the bland pop sound I've heard at least a million times. Nothing notable really.
