The Weeknd - Hurry Up Tomorrow
83

Cover is pretty hard.

Man this thing was an absolute experience. Some really, really beautiful tracks in here. There wasn't a single song on here that I didn't add to one of my playlists, and the amount of variety while staying in the same theme was impressive, though there were times toward the end of the album that things got a little repetitive. Still, the instrumentals were insane and this was some of The Weeknd's most inspired singing since his original trilogy of mixtapes. ... read more

Boldy James - Permanent Ink
59

Second Boldy album and it aint even February yet. This thing was definitely better than the last one, but not good for Boldy standards. The production actually was pretty solid, however, the beats didn't seem like Boldy beats, and that was proven right when Boldy was rapping off-beat on almost every song. Not much to say about this one, it had real potential, but I think Boldy needs to chill for a while.

Benjamin Booker - LOWER
78

Really enjoyed this thing, this is the type of album I probably won't revisit a whole lot in the near future just because I don't have a playlist to add it to. Once I start listening to more Radiohead though this will be on there for sure.

This thing gave off a weird eerie liminal vibe, like you're in another dimension where things are dark and spooky and random and feel incomplete. There were a ton of super good tracks on here, and I thought it was incredibly well produced to ... read more

Central Cee - CAN'T RUSH GREATNESS
43

This shi mid. And I don't know where to start - the singular flow used repetitively throughout the albums, the copy-and-paste drum patterns, the lackluster features, and the unimpressive beats all were major drawbacks to this album. This thing really didn't have much going for it. None of the songs were necessarily bad, but the repetitiveness and blatant averageness of each and every track made this album bad as a whole. I feel like what was always good about Cench's best tracks ... read more

OsamaSon - Jump Out
67

This album cover is fire I don't care what anybody says. Anywho this is probably the first full rage album I have ever listened to, though I have dabbled in some of its tracks in the past. I really enjoyed this thing more than a lot of others it seems. I will say that this thing was incredibly consistent and there weren't any tracks that were straight up booty. That being said, it may have been too consistent for its own good. A lot of the beats sounded the same, and OsamaSon ... read more

FKA twigs - EUSEXUA

Best rated album of the year so far... Let's get right into it

This thing really reminded me of brat. and I know that sounds dumb but I really have just been getting into this genre of music recently. The main difference for me between the two is that this one does really well of creating an atmosphere. It reminds me of the movie "The Arrival" or just a overcast day. Twigs' vocals built on this vibe and made a lot of these tracks ones that I will most definitely return to ... read more

Jordan Adetunji - A Jaguar's Dream
76

Very solid. Sort of reminds me of true 2 myself in the way that the melodies sort of carry it. The beats were pretty solid and I feel like he's finding his sound really well. I've liked this guy before kehlani and the evolution he shows here is pretty insane. Really impressive release from an up-and-coming star.

The Weather Station - Humanhood
69

Can't see myself returning to this album very often in the near future, but I'll probably make a playlist with more of this type of music soon, I just haven't listened to much of this genre/vibe yet. Despite that, I did enjoy a good bit of the songs on this thing. Like I said, they just don't have a place in my many playlists right now. That being said, the songs I will definitely come back to are Neon Signs, Window, Body Moves,

As for the actual album, I really liked the ... read more

smokedope2016 - THE PEAK
77

Wow. This thing is really good. Though I think the way people are rating this album is a bit too much, I really enjoyed this one. Obviously the beats were the strong suit, but I think smokedope2016's vocals weren't terrible. The lyrics, in fact, were better than expected and above average for this type of music, even if they weren't very meaningful. Really solid album. Gets me in that trippy vibe better than anything else.

Boldy James - Murder During Drug Traffic
38

Yeah, this thing was not good. It was entirely due to both the vocal mixing and drums. I actually think some of the samples had potential, and though many of them varied too much to be put together on a Boldy James album, I do think that the majority blended together well. Outside of that though, eh. The drums were terrible and completely ruined anything the sample had going for it, and the vocal mixing messed up any flow Boldy had laid down.

Album cover sick tho

Logic - Aquarius III
58

First logic release I have done thus far. Reading the comments and apparently these are just the tracks he didn't want to put on his next album, and it makes sense. These songs are pretty basic boom bap type songs, nothing really crazy going on. I thought the little kill the aliens skit was cool, and the last track was interesting. This was pretty enjoyable and chill overall, just not really that impressive. For an EP though, pretty solid.

Mac Miller - Balloonerism
80

Probably shouldn't have been my very first mac miller album but who cares. Extremely conceptual, especially for a posthumous album. It started out very strong, but there were definitely some repetitive duds toward the middle/end of the album. The vibe was super eerie and haunting, and though the rapping wasn't anything crazy, the instrumentals were perfectly polished and put together.

Asian Glow - 11100011
77

Pretty nice pretty nice, it's only my second South Korean album, the first was one from Parranoul. I thought this thing started out really, really strong. It had this haunted house-type feel to it, but as the album went on, it lost some of that theme, which is what made it really stand out at the beginning. The songs toward the end were very nice but did the same things the first ones were doing, except they lost a lot of that haunted pizazz.

Franz Ferdinand - The Human Fear
64

Though I had listened to music similar to this in the past, this was my first Franz Ferdinand album. Wasn't expecting a whole lot as they haven't dropped an album in 7 years. This may be incredibly broad as someone who doesn't listen to a ton of what I would call "non-mainstream" rock, but this album is kind of like Melophobia with worse vocal performances and less creativity. There were some really solid songs on here like Night or Day and Audacious, but a lot of them ... read more

Edward Skeletrix - Museum Music
61

All right so the best way I would describe this album is it's Playboi Carti's voice and style mixed with JPEGMAFIA and his unusualness and his out there-ness. But you take that mix and you make it more liminal and less constructive with the structure of the tracks. Though the song titles at first may seem depressing this album as a whole has a much more lighthearted feel to it. Overall I would not see myself coming back to these tracks much or to the album much as a whole, despite ... read more

Bad Bunny - DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS
76

First bad bunny album, and lets just say, this was fire. There were a ton of tracks i enjoyed a ton, with Cafe Con Ron being my favorite of the few. The production was spectacular and though there were a couple of songs that sounded basic and boring, I really liked this thing overall. This is going to go down as the album that got me into latin music.

Lil Baby - WHAM
59

Not as bad as some people say it is, the mixing was flawless and the production was impressive at times. Didn't think Lil Baby neccesarily went crazy on any of these tracks but there are definitely a couple that'll go on the rotation. Not great but not bad for a trap album.

J. Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive (10 Year Anniversary Edition)
82

Cole is just a master at this type of stuff. I have no clue if these are new songs but they're really, really good. The lyricism isn't super corny and the beats are sooooo nice. Great 8 tracks.

Elujay - Circmvnt
70

I was introduced to this album by Luvaroq, which is still a banger to this day. This album had some super nice nature-esque instrumentals that Elujay did well on vocally on most tracks. I was impressed by the production level at the beginning of the album, and the drums were super nice. It did get a bit repetitive towards the end but still a really good album

Charli xcx - BRAT
78

I hate all the cringe stuff that goes along with this album but I decided I would give it a listen to hopefully round out my top 10

I really liked the sound of this album even though the subject matter does not connect with me at all. The overall sound was super consistent, though it did get a bit repetitive towards the middle of the album. Von dutch is an absolute banger and the entire atmosphere was nice and cool and fire. Pretty solid, far from AOTY though.
