relatively good shoegaze record, some inconsistency here and there but nothing abhorrent. worth a listen
I have to say, I am slightly impressed by this album.
Going into Buzz, I really had zero expectations after Tsunami came out, thinking that this would just be another Nicole and nothing more and, more or less, thats what we got, however, it is an improvement. The first three tracks of 'Buzz', 'Too Much Of A Good Thing and 'Collosal' all stand out as honestly solid tracks, each providing a good take on indie rock as well as improving on the flaws of Nicole, however this ... read more
Peggy my beloved, you have blessed me with music again.
Jpegmafia drops his newest album I LAY DOWN MY LIFE FOR YOU and I was going into this with an insane amount of hype after hearing the singles with SIN MIEDO quickly becoming my favourite JPEGMAFIA track ever, next to the likes of Garbage Pale Kids and Jesus Forgive Me, I Am A Thot. However this album is NOT as good as these tracks and actually quite dissapointing considering the hype surrounding this. From inconsitent sounds to terrible ... read more
Well at least Niki has been consistent with these track releases.
Tsunami is the 3rd (?) single released for her upcoming album Buzz and again its an improvement on the relatively dull Nicole but doesn't excite me beyond a nice little tune. While Niki's lyricism continues to stand out, the sound to which she finds herself in has been so overused that I am scared Buzz will become another Nicole and not provide anything past a surface level bit of enjoyment.
feeling a fundamental ... read more
After listening to Lithonia and what a great single that was, I came into this project with very high hopes. Childish Gambino, however, disappoints once again. Much like his previous album this year, it's not bad, just not good.
Bando Stone and The New World is definitely ambitious and has a few great moments spread across it, namely Lithonia and We are God which both show that Gambino has the talent to make great tracks individually but, contrastingly to Atavista, this record lacks any ... read more
Eminem comes through with a brand new LP and man is it underwhelming.
Corny bars, uninspired instrumental and on the nose lyrics. I'm going to go listen to Childish Gambino
I have to say, I've never particularly liked Clairo's music so going into this project, I did not have the highest expectations. Clairo, however, stunned me. From spectacular production to unexpectedly mature lyrics, this album was enjoyable from start to finish with only a few tracks not reaching the same level as some stand out ones such as "Sexy to Someone" and "Terrapin". I thought that the biggest example of a song that slightly flopped was "Glory of the ... read more
After 2 years, Keshi comes through with a brand new pop track. While more refined and slightly more mature than most of the tracks on his previous record, Gabriel, I am still thoroughly dissapointed as the production is bland and the beat screams the most basic sound of pop music. I am not mad at this musical direction Keshi finds himself going in, however, I do believe that something more grandiose is required as this track does not make me hopeful for future tracks. On a brighter note, ... read more
As an individual who wasn't particularly excited for the next Billie Eilish project, I have to say I am pleasantly surprised
Her last album "HAPPIER THAN EVER" was by no means bad, however it never resonated me outside a few tracks such as 'my future' and 'Getting Older' as they provided a subversive take on the pop genre at the time without being overplayed like ' Happier Than Ever' or 'Therefore I am'. Again these tracks are not bad at all, just never clicked with me. That being ... read more
Gunna's 'One of Wun' exceeds expectations by somehow making the exact some project 3 times in a row.
There is nothing I can say that hasn't already been said, however it is important to nail down just how stupid this entire album is. Not only has he not evolved his sound but he hasn't evolved his lyricism or his rapping or his production making it even more unnecessary this entire record is. Gunna may as well just have called this 'a Gift & a Curse 2' because of how eerily similar both of ... read more
The first album I have listened to of Jessica Pratt's and man it did not dissapoint.
While I don't believe that 'Here in the Pitch' is the most inventive album ever created, Pratt certainly showcases some beautifully soft vocals which are paired nicely with sweet production. It doesn't blow you ot of the water, however that's not what it's going for and I believe Jessica Pratt expresses that nicely in this record. The lyricism could probably use a little more development and the runtime ... read more
Dua Lipa's 5th studio album 'Radical Optimism' is underwhelming.
I wasn't particularly excited for the next Dua Lipa album but I would've hope for either a little more variety or some gambles in terms of the production. Each song is a just an OK dance pop song with average production and I would go so far as to say mediocre and even grating lyricism. The lyrics are a big part as to why I believe this album is below average very on the nose lines that leave no room for interpretation further ... read more
After being introduced to Quadeca through his disgustingly good project 'Scrapyard', I decided to listen to most of the other Quadeca albums. This is the first one I have truly given my whole attention to and man has he improved.
Quadeca's 'From Me To You' is a really strange project in the terms that it features some genuinely great production on almost every single track, but this production is accompanied by some atrocius lyrics such as, on the song 'Shades of Us', the line "Sometimes ... read more
Definitely not better than overcompensate or next semester but it's got its own charm. Twenty one pilots has maintained consistency throughout these 3 singles which is what they seemed to struggle with through all their albums (except trench). Very excited for the new album if this is the level of quality coming.
It may only be 4 months into 2024, but it is safe to say that Quadeca has dropped what could be the best mixtape/album/record this year. The sombre vocals mixed with insanely chilling production makes an almost perfect listening experience despite seemingly being scraps from other projects.
Some stand out songs would include DUSTCUTTER which is one of if not the best intro I've ever heard to an album, combining heavily edited vocals with unsettling instrumental ultimately setting the tone for ... read more
The first record I have listened to by Vince Staples and I am not dissapointed. The album has production that is interesting all throughout the album but doesn't do anything revolutionary, however, it pairs well with Vince's rapping which is also easy on the ears. Overall a very solid first album to listen to that doesn't blow me out of the water.
Absolutely atrocious album. The lyrics are unbearably corny which feature alongside boring instrumental pieces. While acoustic albums can be interesting when paired with proper vocals, none of the 12 tracks are able to achieve this to a high enough standard as on other albums from Lovejoy. WIlbur does not have the vocal range to make this album interesting at all. Because of this the acoustic kind of vibe on this album becomes old quick as there is no reason to listen past about "Glass ... read more
As much as I love ericdoa, this album has been highly overrated by people. While its easy to listen to and provides some good tracks in terms of "dancinwithsomebawdy" and "lastjune" thats about where it ends. The rest are alright pop songs mixed with some hyperpop elements which definitely makes it standout compared to other pop albums, however eric is far from his potential on this record which is evident in tracks such as "the cake is a lie" and "crisis ... read more
I don't even understand why it is so enjoyable. It's impossible to explain you just have to listen to it.
