I was shocked to hear that most people actually do not like this LP. I do not understand how this album would differ to any of their other projects as it upholds to the same quality and, personally, has no skips in it either. The vibe it presents is different to anything done so far by the band as added synths and electronic sounds are used in such a way to give this album its own unique sound, as well as as what you would recognise from the past still being present here. A good, vibey album ... read more
This is the first full Daniel Ceasar album I've listened to, and I now understand the hype surrounding him. Although some of the songs feel like they may be lacking in something, overall the album presents a chill and well balanced R&B mix that can be appreciated by any enjoyer of the contemporary rnb genre. This has definitely motivated me to check out his other projects as well.
An incredibly mixed bag. An album of high highs and low lows, mixed in with very average songs too. Some songs off this album I really like and would say is the band at their best, and other times I would say frankly the opposite. Features with Gorrilaz are very hit or miss, songs such as 'She's My Collar' and 'Ascension' being some of the best in the LP, but others just being plain bad. The first half is definitely the better as quality dips after 'Andromeda', with the exception of 'She's My ... read more
This is the version of the album available on Spotify and the default if you want to listen to the album, so this is the version I appreciated first. Appreciate is not the right word though as the new 5 songs added here are not good and don't add anything to the album, making it worse in fact.
His only work as of this date. A ⅔ experience as two of these songs provide a nostalgic felt, emotional and properly indie atmosphere with simple lyricism and heartfelt chords. The first song however feels out of place and didn't stand out much, with boring instrumental and vibe. I love the two good songs in this EP.
The Complete edition is the way to go if listening to the album as it features bangers that aren't in the original. A great rock album by a great rock band. The quality remains persistent throughout the whole album and nearly every song is perfect for what it is. A mix of emotions and vibes with some chill songs here and there, then some headbanging rockier songs in other places. Possibly their best album.
You know, this might've been trending a year ago but even still now I find myself still listening to all of these songs if my playlist's on shuffle because it's just good. The album has no skips and is a very good album as far as indie rock goes. People may remember this as only a phase or just a trend on tiktok, but I remember it as good music that I found because of that trend, and still listen to it today.
A great album with excellent features throughout. Whenever Tyler does RnB, he does it right, such as he's done here. Only a few songs didn't stick out to me, but the overall production and quality of the album makes up for any negatives found as all the songs in the album were produced very well. The sound created is unique and addictive, and it leaves you wanting more.
Personally is what i think to be his best album. Some great songs in there mixed in with some average, uninnovative ones. Luckily the bad only shadows the good as there is mostly good to come from the album. Some great features also appear in the album, none of which are bad except for Young Thug's in which he ruins the, what would've been, great song he's in. A mixed bag with mostly good in it.
Arguably their best album. Their use of simple structuring and mixing proves effective as the album appears more indie and charming this way. Songs are constructed of layers of simple instrumentation which conbine to make a satisfying and enjoyable overall experience and found myself skipping none of the 9 songs. Specifically, the closer to the album is personally my favourite from it as it ends the album on a very good note. Definitely a comeback from their previous album.
My favourite and their most well made album. You can't argue that this isn't tøp at their best. All the songs in it are quite easy to differentiate, each with their own personality and feel to them. With only one skip for me in the LP that costed it its 100 (that being 'Smithereens'), it deserves a nice 98. You can tell that the band fully figured out its style in this album.
I hear mixed opinions about this album, but I think it's Lacy at his best. Ruined by tiktok culture for me a little bit, but the songs still hold up to me even after the hype died down a little bit. A very solid album with some very well made songs in it, that deserved the hype it got.
Recently listened to this not knowing what to exepct, and reading others reviews, I'm afraid I agree with the majority of there problems. The album has some very atmospheric and sad songs in it, but half of it isn't terribly good/done well or feels half done. I would've liked to have ranked this higher than I did, but the bad things weigh down the good.
Not as good as the other singles, but only slightly. A funky song that slaps.
To be honest I felt underwhelmed when I finishied listening to this album. Since it had been talked about quite highly and the songs I did know from it were quite good, I had higher expectations. The album is not bad, in fact it is good, but some of the songs that featured in it seemed to fall flat and not stick out to me when compared to 'Dragonball Durag' or 'Funny Thing'. Overall though, a chilled and funky LP that showcases Thundercat at his best, definitely worth checking out.
Hands down one of the best albums of the year. From start to end, this album is an immersive, nostalgic trip that's accompanied by great lyrics, instrumentation and build up in particular songs. I appreciate how they brought the piano into this album as they hadn't had one in thwr previous 'When We Were Friends', as it helps to build the atmosphere and the song itself in a noticeable way. Great album.
As a whole, the album doesn't feel complete, but it's still good. Most of the songs that feature in it either feel like demos or are too short to feel like proper, immersive songs. The overall sound, lyricism and mixing for these songs are still good though and it's what I expected from Joji, even they don't feel completely fleshed out.
An overall mellow, but enjoyable experience. The four extra songs added to the deluxe version complete it and add what the original album was missing. Similarly to the band's other recent work, the album is a further implementation of the fact The Neighbourhood knows what their strengths are instrumentally and stylistically, and it is reassuring to see a maintained high standard throughout their music. A pretty good album.
