75TH REVIEW ON THIS SITE!
As my 75th review on AOTY, I decided to listen to The College Dropout by Kanye West, an album that’s widely regarded as one of(if not the greatest) hip-hop album of all time, and an essential in the genre.
This album (as I previously said) was made and produced by Kanye West, and it came out in the year 2004. This album has a unique take on hip-hop, in which instead of the traditional 90’s beats, he blended elements of soul, jazz and even funk in his beats ... read more
I’m speechless. Artaud by Pescados Rabiosos is an 1973 Folk/Art rock album. This album although it claims to be Folk rock like Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, the album actually has a lot of elements from prog rock and art rock, and even though at times it has that folk and indie sound, in some of the last tracks it has a very heavy sound for a folk album, that would fit as progressive rock perfectly, an at times it feels like two different albums in one, with a folk album and a ... read more
FIRST REVIEW OF 2025
Five Leafs Left is a 1969 chamber/contemporary folk album by singer-songwriter Nick Drake. This album has a cozy and chill sound, featuring acoustic guitars and pianos, and at times some other stuff like drums and string arrangements. This accompanied by Nick’s soft and mellow voice, which is really good but doesn’t stand out, makes for a very pleasing and nice experience listening, kinda like a sunrise or an early morning. The album also features a great ... read more
This was strange. Mezzanine is a 1998 Trip-Hop album by British group Massive Attack. The album has a dark and kinda mysterious vibe to it, which is something I didn’t expect going into this record. The singing and vocals, even though they don’t take the spotlight and are as prominent, they’re really good, especially the use of harmonies in the singing at times which reminded me of Imaginal Disk and Ray of Light. The instrumentals were the most memorable thing in the whole ... read more
This was jangly. The Queen Is Dead is a 1986 jangle/indie pop album by British band The Smiths. The album has a very unique sound, featuring some very prominent vocals and singing from Morrissey, a guitar with some sort of weird effects and some good basslines. The album has a standard indie rock sound before it was popularized by bands like The Strokes, R.E.M. & many others, which definitely makes this album a pioneer and one of the first indie rock albums ever. The singing on this is ... read more
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE AND I HOPE YOU ENJOY YOUR HOLIDAYS
This was good. Sometimes I Might Be Introverted is a 2021 UK Hip-Hop/Jazz rap album by Little Simz. The album features a classic hip-hop sound, but at times can dive into a cinematic sound with string sections and arrangements, and in other occasions can be a more casual sound that’s relaxing, also it features some very reflective and personal lyrics all through the album. The rapping and flows are pretty good, and can adjust for the situation or time that it’s being used, ... read more
This was unexpected. The Doors is a 1967 psychedelic/blues rock album by American rock band The Doors. This album has a psychedelic and also a bluesy sound, kinda like Jimi Hendrix or Eric Clapton, but with some good vocals from Jim Morison, the album has a distinct and common sound from the 60’s, with the inclusion of stuff like keys/pianos, which is kinda unusual for the time, but went onto become more common. The vocals from Jim are solid in this album, with him not over delivering, ... read more
This was simply good. The songs of Leonard Cohen is a 1967 Singer-Songwriter/Folk album by Leonard Cohen. This album has some of the greatest and best writing and lyrics that I have heard in my life, like seriously, this album is borderline poetic, with the amount of love dedicated lyrics all through the album makes it a wonderful listen, seriously, the best lyrics I’ve probably heard ever. The singing is also amazing, with his vocals being impressive and key to the album, his high and ... read more
That was surreal. Heaven or Las Vegas is a 1990 Dream-Pop/Neo-Psychedelia album by Cocteau Twins. The album has a such a surreal, sublime and indescribable sound that’s just crazy good, like, it’s a combination of shoegaze, and neo-psychedelia, two of my favorite genres of music, into an actual masterpiece, like it just has such a psychedelic sound all throughout that’s amazing, like it just has such a hypnotic sound that’s just crazy to describe, and you don’t ... read more
This was chaotic af. The Money Store is a 2012 hardcore/experimental hip-hop record by hip-hop group Death Grips. The sound of this album is hard to describe, with a very chaotic and experimental sound in it, it’s hard to listen to this album, due to it’s chaotic nature, but it’s very good and intriguing at first listen. The rapping, although chaotic and at times incomprehensible, it’s very good and flows at times, but also kinda aggressive and hostile. The production on ... read more
This was kinda fun. Marquee moon is a 1977 post-punk/art rock album made by Televison. The album has a very funky and fun sound to it, which makes it kinda fun to listen to, but it also has it’s down moments where you feel that the album is slightly less upbeat and more sad than before, and them that energy comes back again. The singing was very good and represented the spirit and energy of the 1970’s rock scene, but he doesn’t sing a lot in the album. The instruments were ... read more
This was oddly sad. Titanic rising is an art/baroque pop album by American singer songwriter Weyes Blood, that was released in 2019. This album features a very distinctive sound that’s very melancholic and just overall sad, with the depressing and down best tone of Weyes voice, the pianos and guitars throughout the album and also the strings and orchestral arrangements seen in some of the songs. Weyes Blood’s singing in this is also really great, with a talented voice, it makes you ... read more
This album is genuinely of the best pieces of music that i have ever heard.
This was phenomenal. Ready To Die is a 1994 Hip-Hop record by Biggie Smalls a.k.a. The Notorious BIG. The rapping in this album is phenomenal, the flows and beats are great, absolutely catchy and flowy like butter, also the melodies and secondary voices add a lot to some of the songs. The lyrics on this are just next level, nothing like them, the sheer storytelling on this album is worthy of a movie or a best-selling book, not a rap album, also most of this lyrics talking about biggie's ... read more
This was very chaotic. Rage Against the Machine is a 1992 Alt/Rap Metal album by American Alt Metal band Rage Against the Machine. The album mostly talks about topics that were recurrent and very controversial at the time and even today, featuring topics and lyrics about stuff like politics, war, revolution and the struggles of the everyday life of an American. This led to the band being heavily criticized and even censored in some places due to their controversial nature and topics discussed ... read more
This was 35 minutes of pure bliss and joy. LONG SEASON by Fishmans is a 1996 neo-psychedelia/Dream Pop record with a length of 35 minutes. The album has a very omninous and very ambient sound, as it shows up throughout it's entirely, especially at the beggininng and end of this album. It also some prog rock elements in the middle of it. But it mostly consists of that dream pop psychedelic ambient ethereal sound in it's entirety. The singing, while minimal, makes up for some surreal ... read more
This was really chill. For Emma, Forever Ago is a 2007 indie folk/ singer-songwriter album by Bon Iver. The album features a very distinct folk sound and a lot of folk elements like acoustic guitars, double tracking, simple vocals and a very melancholic sound. It definitively gave a very cozy sound, kinda like pink moon by nick drake. The production on this was also really good and simple, which complemented the album. The album’s also very emotional and has some very deep lyrics, if you ... read more
This was unexpected. Close to the Edge by Yes is a 1972 progressive rock album, featuring three tracks and clocking in at around 37 minutes. The production on this is absolutely stunning. The sound is incredibly rich and detailed, capturing the nuances of each instrument with remarkable clarity. The musicianship throughout is simply breathtaking. In conclusion, Close to the Edge is a masterpiece of progressive rock, a testament to the band's incredible talent and ambition. It's an ... read more
