The original content of Minas is a very good album by Milton Nascimento, but the the Beatles cover of "Norwegian Wood" is unbearable dreadful and superfluous as bonus track on later versions. Ok, I only rate the origin content with eleven songs.
The greatest music from Chile I know, maybe I should take a deeper look.
Timewind is timeless - and the gorgeous music (and even a fascinating artwork by Urs Amann) demonstrates the brilliance of musician Klaus Schulze.
Great Neil Young album, but my favourite remains the previous album On the Beach.
"A Dream Is All We Know" reminds me of The Beach Boys and the late 60th / early 70th. Therefore it makes fun to listen to the fifth studio album of the Lemon Twigs from New York. For a first impression I recommend to listen to the opener and the title song, that would give you a good idea about the full record.
With his fourth album Leon Bridges makes me think of Michael Kiwanuka, even if it doesn't delight me on the same level, but it's striking enough to generate my intention to listen to former albums of the American artist from Fort Worth (Panther City), Texas. At least the after his forename Leon titled album offers well entertaining, chiefly retro-soul music. If you are interested you could start to listen to the first three songs "When a Man Cries", "That's What I ... read more
My streaming service (Tidal) offers as track one of Fifteen Days "Frozen Rivers", which is surely on my 2024 best songs playlist, at least. And everything else of "Fifteen Days" is highly recommendable. Unfortunately according to discogs there is no physical release, thus one has to deal with the Flac file and the streaming service. The collaboration between Rosa Rocca Serra (vocals), Mike Theis and Adrian Thaws (Tricky) et al is more than fruitful, in my opinion. Maybe one ... read more
For Breeder fans Kim Deal's first solo album contents the songs "Disobedience" and "Big Ben Beat". Most of everything else seems a bit unusual for the artists, using brass or string arrangements, but rather calm sounds such as in the title song "Are You Mine?" or "Cost" are striking as well.
Corinne Bailey Rae provides with her fourth (within 17 years) full studio album a huge range of musical styles, culminating in an expressive and spellbounding album. My little favourite between all the different songs is "Red Horse", but each single song on this album stands for itself, without any lack of connection.
I like the calmer songs of Jane Weaver's ninth studio album such as "Motif" and "The Axis and the Seed", but also everything else on the album has something like a hypnotic and absorbing effect to me. Love In Constant Spectacle is an album which invites to listen to it again and again with the promise, it will become better and better with each listening.
I can't help myself, contrary to the opinion of most aoty-mates I have a lot of fun with this pretenious kitsch synthpop album by Gorillaz. In particular the tracks with special guests such as Thundercat for the title song, "Oil" with grande dame Stevie Nicks, "Silent Running" with Adeleye Omotayo and "New Gold" with Kevin Parker and Bootie Brown (Bootie contributed vocals to the earlier Gorillaz' song "Dirty Harry"). The second part of the ... read more
Chelsea Wolfe convince with her seventh studio album "She Reaches Out to She Reaches Out to She" which is able to absorb one just with the first three tracks, in particular "House of Self-Undoing", followed by an exciting blend of experimental, darkwave, industrial, gothic row of songs, finally culminating in the appropriate closer "Dusk".
Danish artist Clarissa Connelly's third album "World of Work" is an incredible surprising grab bag of musical ideas, both unusual and convincing. Overal I go with aoty user SUNDANCER, cause Clarissa makes me also think of Joanna Newsom.
The third album (unexceptional in this decade) of Bonny Light Horseman "Keep Me On Your Mind/See You FreeVery" is a nice, warm, pleasant contemporary folk album. Not even the high number of 20 songs spoils the broth and accumulate to more than one hour beautiful tunes, fine songs - everything subtle produced (Josh Kaufman!).
Cardiac's debut studio album represents a weird genre-mix of punk, progressive rock and any new wave. Furthermore it makes me think in parts of Sparks and Specials. Nevertheless the more prog-rock oriented tracks "Is This the Life", which was also played at radio stations, and the closing track "The Whole World Windows" are my favourites of the vinyl. In addition remarkable is the fact that some releases (most of the releases from 1995 or later) content eleven tracks, ... read more
I'm ambiguous with Joshua Michael Tillman's fourteenth (the sixth under the moniker Father John Misty) solo studio album with the unusual title Mahashmashana (Sanskrit for great cremation ground). There are some almost sticky songs such as "Mental Health" but also spellbounding tracks such as the overwhelming "I Guess Time Just Makes Fools of Us All". And then there is something like "Screamland", which is something actually impossible: both together, ... read more
In particular the colaboration on Paul McCartneys third solo album with Stevie Wonder makes really fun, not only the vocals in "Ebony and Ivory" but also or even better the co-writing for "What's That You're Doing?". Furthermore there are some really good compositions of Paul on this album, such as the title song "Tug of War", "Take It Away" or "Ballroom Dancing", just to list a few.
The mere fact that the 2023 deceased Benjamin Zephaniah - R.I.P Benjamin - contributed to this album the vocals for "Where Is Your Pride?" draws my attention, maybe also the idea to produce a non-commercial album only with songs with vocals of different, rather less well-known artists. The result is a set of 13 downtempo, trip hop, ambient and deep house tracks with a wide variety of voices and the occasion to pick up one or two new artist you don't know to date. From this ... read more
