Hey Chevelle, THAT’S how you drop a summer alt-metal project.
This is their best album since White Pony, I don’t give a fuck. Since I first got into Deftones and listened to Around the Fur during the pandemic, they have swiftly become one of my favorite metal bands of all time. Their nu-metal origins and intense screams and guitar riffs blend so perfectly with the mellow shoegaze “bruh I’m floating” energy in a lot of their later work, and I could bump any of ... read more
I wish I loved this as much as everyone else does. I never thought there could be a thing as too much distortion, but there was here. Not to mention the song structure just feels like it's all over the place. I'm still EXTREMELY excited for this new album, but Gifted Every Strength was so much better than this single.
METAL MARCH MADNESS 2/31 - DRONE METAL
My first expose to drone metal was a few years ago with Sun 0))) or (however the fuck you spell it) and my feelings to them - then and now - was polite applause. I understood the concept of drone metal and respect it, but it didn't grab me in the way other subgenres of metal do. THIS album however, fucking slaps. It genuinely didn't occur to me that drone metal can exist in mediums beyond just strumming the same 3 strings for 10 minutes at a ... read more

METAL MARCH MADNESS 1/31 - METALCORE

This really does feel like the epitome of the subgenre as a whole, and it perfectly scratches every single itch I've been missing in a metalcore album. The production is fucking fantastic and works perfectly well with the variety of mathcore and sludgey elements across the ... read more
This has absolutely no right going as hard as it does but I'm so here for it. I have been waiting and begging for Curry to embrace a metal side in music ever since his cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade" and what a fucking combo to be doing it with prime Knocked Loose. The very small trap elements do NOT hinder the metalcore sound at all and are well placed, and Curry's flow/performance on the instrumentals goes hard. This is both a dream collab and a ... read more
FELCOMMENTARY SPEED REVIEWS
Before I get into the actual review itself, I wanna make a small announcement to those that follow: starting March 1st I'll be doing a Metal March Madness challenge where I listen to an album from a different subgenre that I never really listened to or explored. I'm going to start with Converge's "Jane Doe" because it's the one I'm the most excited for, then the album choices after will be randomized on a wheel spin. Tune in.
