I would like to preface this by saying that this is probably THE most important album in defining me, so there might be a bit of bias in this review.
But oh my god, if this isn't one of the best debut albums in recent memory, possibly of all time. Brimming with character and personality, easy to see why it's such an Indie Rock staple.

Overly pretentious bullshit made for people to feel musically "superior" for listening to it.
Incredibly solid, definitely gonna be a grower. The middle of the album is kinda rough but for the most part this bangs.
Pretty underrated, makes me all the more sad that they've completely lost any and all flair they used to have (and Mike Kerr seems like an insufferable prick).
It definitely wears it's influences on it's sleaves (pretty much every song reminded me of either QOTSA, The White Stripes or DFA 1979) and Kerr seems to embodying either Jack White or Josh Homme with all his vocal performances, but you can't say that none of these songs hit HARD.

Such a bright start for arguably one of the best bands of the 21st century. I do agree with the common sentiment that this album is definitely bloated (around 6 of these tracks are completely unnecessary, ESPECIALLY the "Pretentious Mix" of "Yeah") and it feels more like a mixtape than an album, but so many of these songs absolutely SLAP.
