Very different stylistically to the previous release and the switch-up for disc 2 adds a lot to the record - which without a few standout tracks like Show of Hands, Drink N Dance, Night Like This and the title track - would feel quite empty. I like that it's not stacked with features, which pays dues to the chemistry of Metro & Future more, but definitely a lot of filler and slight lack of creativity.
Sidenote, I wish Crazy Clientele's outro lasted longer, one of my favourite moments on ... read more
I quite enjoyed this, more than I expected at least. Most songs are passionate with deep lyricism. I enjoyed the somewhat intense dance-pop production, however the album overall feels quite one dimensional, a feature or two wouldn't have hurt, or one more unique standout hit song.
Absolutely brimming with creativity and eccentric beats. Tyler's style of rapping where it feels slightly like he is just yelling things that come into his head work in parts and in other result in a slight lack of cohesion and organisation, which I guess you shouldn't expect from him anyway. Not better than Igor, but more listenable.
As a big Cudi fan - this is predominately unlistenable. Willis MIGHT be the worst song of all time? That is where I will stop.
Arguably Cudi's third best album for me. Behind Man on the Moon 1&2. It's something new and so so underrated with plenty of solid tracks and visionary production. Really love the pacing and intensity this has, however it could have been much shorter and probably would have been more praised. Highlights for me are Unfuckwittable, Just What I Am, NYC Rage Fest, Red Eye, Brothers and Cold Blooded. All of these are great songs and I never see any of them spoken about. Shame
The balance of the Sampha vocals and the production that sounds like recordings of an ancient African tribe make this album one of my favourite first time listening experiences ever, little short though, also too inconsistent. Some tracks are sonically pleasing to the max but you have to concentrate to enjoy the full record.
Yeah right is one of the best songs I've ever heard - that Kendrick feature... 745, Big Fish, Party People, Love Can Be.. This is so so so good. Feels like what Drake was trying to make with Honestly, Nevermind. Definitely Vince Staples' best work, showcases extreme creativity and musical insight.
Similarly to Daniel Caesar's NEVER ENOUGH, I would love this if he didn't hate white people, oh well.
It's a challenging listen at first but once you allow yourself to get into the tranquillity of Dark Times, you'll realise this is an album purely desired to be listened to on your own, with the lights out, laying on the bed. Once again his best quality is his ability to ride the production. Favourites are Little Homies & Black&Blue, which probably says something about where he shines ... read more
I feel like Blonde was minimalised and simplified just enough during its creation to the point it is still extremely multifaceted but can also be enjoyed in a down to earth manner, this is for everyone.
Don't care what critics and losers think this went insanely hard and completely shuffled up a whole genre, one of the most unique and interesting albums of the last 10 years
An uplifting, emotional, perfect, first of its kind masterpiece, and the most important album in hip-hop history. Still sounds like it could come out today and do just as well. This is undoubtedly a happy album with happy undertones, shame his momma died. Homecoming is one of the best songs of the century.
ASTROTHUNDER as a song sums up the entire album, where Travis Scott strays from his so well identifiable trap sound and reimagines the genre entirely with a strong yet tranquil grungy psychedelic feel; So well rounded, feels like it was worked on for 10 years non-stop. The most anticipated release of my life, was so hyped for this when it dropped and it has aged to perfection since then.
Before relistening I would have previously put this as 4th in Kendrick's discography, and after listening I agree, however controversial this may be, I think the album is amazing and would top any other hip-hop artists discography's, but for me, there are too many gaps in quality in comparison to his other records, and I am not a huge fan of the second half of this album. However, to think about the quality TPAB brings with its highlights, and the impact it has had, as well as the depth of the ... read more
This album is great, fills such a void in the genre with an insane variety in style throughout, production feels completely fresh and new on each track, the layering of vocals/mixing bring it to life, honestly amazing. This is a result of relentless ambition paying off - every song is so different from the last, Taylor Sw*ft and her production team should listen to this many times before setting foot in the studio again. CHIHIRO to THE GREATEST is a very impressive 4 track run.
If someone asked me to name the biggest 'classic' of all time its always GKMC for me, filled with unique amazing memorable addictive tracks. Greatest debut album ever, the whole idea of it is just so above everything. The tracks vary from energetic to melancholic whilst always maintaining the story, somehow.
Conceptually, unreal. Individually, unreal. Lyrically and melodically, unreal. Quality level on Damn is next to none, the quieter tracks that are maybe only on the album to add to the concept and story such as FEEL, LUST or FEAR are so amazing that you wouldn't be able to tell. DAMN is an intense yet profound record that explores infinitely interpretable topics, all whilst being amazingly easy to follow. As for the music, Kendrick was sure to include songs that could and still can be picked out ... read more
No structure to the album, very jumpy and some tracks contrast heavily in quality to others. One stable factor would be the heavy production and its consistent themes of heavy percussions and melodic samples. All of the features are well selected and seem perfected, and Pusha's level of rap is no less than you would expect, provides his well known attributes with many verses focused on his criminal past and traumas.
