Genesis Owusu - REDSTAR WU & THE WORLDWIDE SCOURGE
79

It had some good songs and new sounds from Genesis Owusu, a bit of a blend of genres, I still think SWNT is better, but I do like the album. Maybe it needs more listens. 7.9/10.

The Avalanches - Since I Left You

Paris Texas - They Left Me with the Sword
87

it’s better than Red Hand Akimbo and BOY ANONYMOUS, but not as good as MID AIR, it has less songs and more filler so of course, but it is still a great EP. My favourite song is Red Eyes & Blue Hearts, my least favourite aside from filler is probably Holy Spinal Fluid. I was looking forward to more music from the duo, and this album drops. I listened to it the day it dropped, and was very happy at how this turned out. I listened to Infinyte as a single before 5+ times and enjoyed it. ... read more

Peter and the Test Tube Babies - The Mating Sounds of South American Frogs
94

The people reviewing this know nothing about the band and/or punk in general, I’ve liked this band for years and even met Peter himself. I have this on vinyl, and this album is one of the best in the genre. From one of the best bands in the punk genre, September Parts 1-2 is legendary, The Jinx is one if not their best song. And this album is their best, Soberphobia and Pissed and Proud are both good projects and Soberphobia is experimental to the genre. While the “newer” ... read more

Chuck Person - Chuck Person’s Eccojams Vol. 1

The second best Vaporwave project, next to Floral Shoppe, the two big greats. I remember sunsetcorp, Angel, Nobody Here and Demerol are all perfect Vaporwave songs. My favourite is Nobody Here, and those three feature on the album. Eccojams is a wonderful project for its genre, and should be a blueprint for sampling and turning snippets into full length songs. Eccojams is an experience everyone should experience, and that’s my piece. 8.8/10.

Ethel Cain - Perverts

A great ambient project, I can listen to long form music, but this album might not be for me. While I do like Aphex Twin and every once in a while listen to When Man Fails You, this album didn’t strike any replay ability with me, while it is just looped noise like any other ambient/instrumental album, there is great cases of turning nothing into something in the genre. Making looped sounds special and mystical, Aphex mastered that. And while this new album isn’t my favourite, I do ... read more

Aphex Twin - #19
99

One of the best, if not, the best ambient track ever. It’s up there with Aphex Twin’s other hits, and while this was not on Spotify for the longest time, it was beautiful and made a lot of Aphex fans. For its length, it feels not long enough, especially when you are in the right state of mind for the song. The song comes to you, in a sad mood, it clears your head. 9.9/10.

Kanye West - Famous
100

the contrast with Rihanna’s vocals, the angelic sample, and Kanye’s vocals and normal beat. 2016 was a great year and this album and song is a highlight, Famous is about Taylor Swift but also takes on the form of other meanings to different people. My favourite part is Rihanna singing the sample, and the ending sample. Also you can’t forget the original sample breakdown, it is heavenly. A perfect song that if it wasn’t directed at Taylor Swift and had other subject ... read more

MGMT - Siberian Breaks

bipolar in music

this song is a classic off of a legendary album, often underrated among casual listeners, who usually just listen to Oracular Spectacular. Siberian Breaks is a show of MGMT’s talent, the album is amazing, and this song is a highlight. It has sorrow, it’s soft spoken and brilliant. It’s interpretive, but for many is a song they love through depression, with the sad strumming in the beginning. The whole song is an up and down emotion, just like life it can be ... read more

Dean Blunt - lucre

solid, looking forward for anything more from him this year, I probably wouldn’t listen again but it was a chill experience. 7.4/10.

Devon Hendryx - 1989 (Michelle's Song)
100

One of the best from the devon hendryx era, it has a bit of a slow start, but some of the best and amazing songs do. When it kicks in it is really beautiful, and is some of Peggy’s finest work. It’s my favourite song he made that’s not on Spotify, second would be Y2K V1. This song is soothing, and I really think it’s amazing, the production is clean and ahead of its time. 1989 is really an experience, and you should listen to it for yourself. The lyricism is on par with ... read more

Ghostface Killah - No Face

Kanye on the downhill, bring back mid 2010s Ye, I really hope Bully is good if it even releases. The leaked songs sounded good. 7.6/10.

Danny Brown - Dark Sword Angel
88

I like the synth, it fits great on Quaranta, it really gets you in a hype mood. 8.8/10.

Ethel Cain - Preacher's Daughter
94

Gotta love a concept album
I love the eerie themes here, and as an enjoyer of the Lovely Bones, this album was great. The story is captivating and interesting, and i agree this is a must hear. The album shows themes of abuse, family issues etc. This album is special, songs like Televangelism, with its Laura Palmer esque piano notes, Strangers, with it’s legendary ending. It’s real, and this story happens to many women, it’s haunting and disturbing. Most of the album sounds ... read more

Yves Tumor - When Man Fails You

First review of 2025!
With this being an instrumental album, people are too harsh, it achieves what its trying to do. Most of the tracks are loops, but it has a good atmosphere, I wouldn’t say it’s a bad album. Just way weaker than the rest of Yves’s discography, and while it has traces of what makes Yves great, it doesn’t showcase the talent and represent Yves. If you’ve listened to selected ambient works, it’s not hard to get through. 6.6/10.

Kenny Mason - Angel Eyes
88

Listened to it twice today (release day) since I’m Australian, got it early. I’ve been replaying HOODRAT as a single, and it fits well with the album, the album is refreshing and I enjoyed it all the way through. I do think there could be improvements, but Kenny is overall very consistent, 2024 has been a big year for music, and this is one of my most anticipated projects of the month. I do recommend this, and I like the energy from Kenny here. Have fun pups! 8.8/10.

Paris Texas - MID AIR
100

I’ve listened to this album 8 times since October, and that’s for a good reason, this album combines hip hop and rock better than any other album I’ve seen. Paris Texas is very innovative, rap/hip hop with electric guitar and elements of rock, with hints of R&B you can see in songs like AREA CODE. In the ending track to this album, we even see a melodic approach I will get into later. Without further ado, let’s get into this album.

Weird R&B approach, especially for him, but I like this direction, and I hope he experiments more on his upcoming album/s. 8.6/10.

detahjae - Lone, Borealis
79

The Tyler inspiration shows every song, if he steered away from this a bit more I would’ve enjoyed this album more, overall still a pretty good album this year, especially for an underground artist on the come up. He should stay true to himself, instead of shouting out 20 artists in the last track, he should shout out himself. 7.9/10.

Kenny Mason - RUFFS
78

This mixtape has melodic elements on songs like RX, while the hype songs like HALLOWEEN are still prevalent, it’s a good balance of different styles/themes. I really like some of the sounds on this album, some songs can become a bit of a drag, but overall the mixtape isn’t as bad as people say it is. Some songs are underwhelming and are a bore, some songs are entertaining and great. There are some blunders I don’t really like (spin n flip is repetitive) but there are ... read more
