I relate to this with the fear of opening up to the wrong people about my struggles, is it cringy? Selfish? Egotistical? Well Kendrick asks these questions, he wonders if his partner will see him different if he confides in her. His truth is complicated, he’s afraid she doesn’t relate and sees him in a bad light. He wants to set his demons straight, and let his emotions out. The chorus, and the whole song is catchy, the drums make this song such a head bopper. “If I told you ... read more
This album: classic, overlooked, blissful and perfectly executed. Brian Wilson is a genius for this album, here’s why!
By the way, I refer to the person speaking as “Brian”.
Wouldn’t it be nice follows the story of young lovers, the sounds of high and low make this song so good, the complimentary parts of the song tie into a great song. He feels the bliss of love, this song perfectly encapsulates it. The second part of this song is true bliss, the echoes of the song, ... read more
First of all, classic, has to be in my top 3 favourite albums, favourite band, I had first listened to this a year ago and fell in love. But I am not biased, this is a great album. I will try to explain it:
The first song, a great loop ( you will get what I mean later), the opening of this song is a perfect intro, this talks about why he made this album in the first place, during his in the flesh tour, he had an incident with a fan. He’s showing his true colours, and asks if it’s ... read more
A great, soft, song about how people can change. The feeling when you see someone change, when they used to be a person you know deeply. The depressed, empty, and sad feeling still makes a track I personally keep on repeat. This song resonates with a lot of people, and is relatable. You develop feeling with people, and when they drift away, whoever they may be, it can hurt. Knowing someone, but not talking to them. Seeing someone change for the worse, a perfect end to a great album too. The ... read more
Great song about how Kendrick grew up, a great “parody” of Empire State of Mind, taking an opportunity to talk about the issues of his hood, and his hood in general. He refers to gkmc with “me I’m just a good kid”, and the “Compton” that the woman yells sounds so good, instead of “New York”. “These streets will make you or break you” tells us a lot, since some of the people who grew up there didn’t make it far, and either ... read more
TPAB combines funk and grooviness within a hip hop album better than I have ever seen, as per usual, I will rate each song one by one before my final rating of the album, here we go on this wild ride:
Wesley’s Theory, starts with a beautiful use of a sample, I believe this is what black people say, knowing their prejudice, they put that aside just to make more money for themselves. This song is about how the government encourages and promotes spending money on lavish things towards ... read more
She really talks about her personal interests on this album, she really talks about her rapping game, and hypes it up, about how she’s been rapping for an hour, and already better than chance the rapper (which is not hard). She says the virus is crazy, and how it’s affecting her life, Break-up is really a sad song, not very relatable. Corona is crazy’s intro actually goes hard, she’s talking about how she compares it to the end of the world, she goes to preschool and ... read more
I am not including the remixes at the end of the album, btw I have this on vinyl. I plan to review every MGMT album, or potentially every project. Anyways, this is the first MGMT album I listened to in full during late 2022. Great album then and great album now, I already know I’m gonna rate this high. You can tell by the start of Its Working this is gonna be a fun album, with a dark aura the whole song. The lyrics together sound good, but half the time don’t make sense together. ... read more
I agree with the “must hear” label, this deserves its popularity. Kendrick’s second best album is what I’ve heard, I’ve listened to his album before but skipped some songs. Sure, some songs are skips, but some songs are ones you want to replay. The first song sets the tone, with the poet-like talk, then a man talking on the news. Then DNA. comes on and you know this album is gonna be hype, he’s talking all gangsta and tough, very narcissistic and full of ... read more
A very profound track, the live version on the album is a bit better. The lyrics have meaning, and are relatable to people who grew up in his situation and just anyone in general. Yet catchy, the lyrics all make sense to what he’s saying. A highlight of the album, and a great taste as a single before the album came out. 9.6/10
4 official albums, yet cults is one of the best 2010 two person bands. Songs in this album can be existential, dark, and mysterious. The first song already being dark, but romantic. Then Go Outside, sampling Jonestown. Using a tragedy in the background, with an upbeat beat. Very catchy, but with a hint of sadness. You Know What I Mean has another amazing beat, with a snap in the background, if you want to play this song you have a great way of keeping in time I guess. The lyrics are always ... read more
Unarguably the most popular TV Girl album, because of TikTok. Without the reason this mostly became popular, this album has great production, and sounds just like the year it was released. Taking what’s not yours has great sampling, just like every other song on this album. The sample chopping, along with the mixing and great looping makes this a masterclass in sampling. Song about me also has a great sample, with a strange origin. Originally a rap diss track, turned into a catchy pop ... read more
Very 2014, the start sounds very coffee shop like. But the rest of the song, with the piano setting the tone..is wonderful, the lyrics and sounds make this very space-like. Very relatable and astronomical lyrics, with the beat mixing in, chefs kiss. I rate this a strong 9.2/10.
At times it can be boring, at times it can be relaxing. This album is one of the best of 2024 so far, as an adamant fan of MGMT, I will say this is not the best of MGMT. But might be one of the best of 2024. Mother Nature has a unique lullaby kind of beat, with happy sounding music, but sad lyrics. The lyrics are a bit confusing and don’t mean much, but some lyrics do mean a lot. You can really picture images through the music, Dancing in Babylon sounds like an old 2000s song with better ... read more
Their first album of the 70s, a great time for Pink Floyd. The album starts a off grand, and menacing. The trumpets really produce an overwhelming sound, then at 1:25 into the first song it really kicks in, it sounds like a superhero theme. Then it sounds like a clown theme, screaming and bombs can be heard. Then driving, then the triumphant trumpets start to sound again. It really feels like a superhero theme, then bass is the only thing heard for a couple of seconds. Then violin, and another ... read more
Track 1: this song really encapsulates how the band must of felt at this time, after all the fame that came from dark side of the moon, they still remembered their fun with syd (the former singer and songwriter for the band). While recording for this album, syd came in and he looked so different the band members cried. There might not be a lot of talking in this song, the words are more powerful then you could imagine.
Track 2: the transition into this song is eerie, and then the manufactured ... read more
Jumps straight into the action, loud and in your face. Only takes a couple of seconds to calm down, very unique genre not sure what to categorise it into. Each song is different to the others , splashhh is very odd. May be sloppy, lazy, and not have much thought put into it, but it’s not horrible. Towards the end of splashhh you get these ear pleasing sounds, then there’s a bit of chaos. Then it jumps into gate sea, I have no clue where you would get these samples from. At points I ... read more
Chill album to listen to at night, great production, under appreciated. Early Vaporwave, predating it by about two years. It is very underground, with 4000 views on YouTube. Wish I knew the samples to these songs, and I wish more people knew about Golf Swingers. Made when no one talked about the genre, and possibly the first Vaporwave album. Made on the akai s20, it gives it clean production for its time with the low budget the band had. This was made by Nick Vitou and his band members, check ... read more
Nah what is this, his rapping doesn’t show in this. The switch into the beat is very bad, the lyrics aren’t crazy either. Nothing to look deep into, I don’t even pay attention to what he’s saying at this point. His older music was better, ever since 2021 or 2022 he just made very bad music. Some people like this, this is just skippable. Ugly is beautiful is leagues ahead of whatever this is, 6.5/10.
Pretty good production, he has been releasing a lot of singles this year, not his best or worst song. He expresses how he has lived, doesn’t have profound lyrics or much meaningful stuff on my first listen. I would give this a 7.5/10, not bad but not amazing or some of his best music, gets a bit repetitive as the beat doesn’t change much.
