How to get in the charts in 2023 (apparently)
Step 1) Get a good song
Step 2) Make it into a really boring dance track
Step 3) Stonks
DSM'S third album in their current form sees them expand on what they know and deliver a psychedelic rock album with clear intentions with fantastic delivery in both composition and performance.
So a remaster just means more compressed with a V-shaped sound signature? Sick...
It's truly impressive that a band with such a small following can just smash out the gates with a near perfect debut EP. It's an awesome combination of everything I love in art rock (noisy instrumentals, strong lead vocals, wailing saxophone parts). Maruja are one of the most exciting bands in the underground scene right now and I truly hope they can break out.
A fun, upbeat dance pop/DnB record with a lot going for it. Catchy melodies, fun instrumentation, clean production all combined and presented in a short n sweet mixtape that doesn't overstay its welcome.
BCNR are just producing classic after classic and this album is no exception. They excel in every element of songwriting and performance and it comes across perfectly in this extremely emotive and heartfelt live album. Even after Isaac's departure, BCNR prove that they are here to stay and produce some amazing music
Holly Humberstone's debut album starts off well but doesn't quite carry that momentum to the end of the album. The first couple of tracks are quite imaginative and unique but by the second half, "Paint My Bedroom Black" dissolves into the crestfallen pop that you would usually hear at the end of a mid-2000s drama show. Nothing here is bad but in an era with so many fantastic and unique indie records, this album doesn't quite have the creativity to stand out.
A banging mix of R&B and liquid dnb to produce a unique record that just really slaps. PinkPantheress' vocals pop, the rhythms are interesting and whilst there are a couple "meh" songs here and there, they really don't deter from a very strong debut LP. It's just really fun
Some songs work long, some songs work short but overall this was a fun and interesting journey from the ever-adventurous KGLW. Some great trance, techno and house here. Just a shame that there isn't a middle ground where songs feel fully explored but don't drag out for the sake of challenging the listener's attention span. And I really wished that Cav's didn't use a Simmons kit; that hi-hat is so grating for me...
Aviram's debut album is clearly inspired by the works of retro rock musicians of the 1960s. The instrumentation, songwriting and production combines styles of big names like The Beatles, The Kinks and The Beach Boys whilst still maintaining an identity of its own. This is a must listen for any folk rock fans
What a unit of a psych album. It starts off strong and never drops the ball once. Great lyrics, monstrous instrumentals and just overall a superb album from a band that clearly do not get enough recognition.
Not the duo's best release but still a testament to how talented Andrew and Rob are when I'm giving this album just under a 7/10 and they made it in half a day. Well played.
Another solid banger from stoner prog group, Vokonis. Strong vocals paired with fuzzy, heavy and progressive instrumentals. It's a short release but the tracks were 100% worth releasing. Vokonis really need more recognition
When I originally reviewed this album, I didn't love it but I gave it a fairly decent review. In the months since, I've kind of grown to detest how much this version of the album has become the definitive experience of the 2010's most popular pop album, because it's just not as good.
It still suffers from the awful compression the last album suffered from. It's possibly the most over-compressed pop album I've listened to this year. And there's a weird buzzing ... read more
Wargasm had a string of very meh singles a year or two before this album and since then, I kind of stopped paying attention to them. However, Venom is a good return to form for the duo. Plenty of variety, plenty of decent riffs and a little sprinkle of cringe. I would like to see them explore a few new ideas in later releases because some tracks do sound a bit too comfortable here.
A decent noise rock record with a lot of variety in such a short amount of time. Unfortunately that short runtime does result in this EP feeling a little under explored. Still very solid
This is a superb pop punk record. With elements of classic pop punk, indie and some garage rock, Rosenstock combines excited, fuzzy guitars with his raw vocal style to create a unique and enjoyable album that's well worth spinning
In its 28 minute runtime, A New Tomorrow does a fantastic job and uniting Zulu's kin and stomping on injustice. It does this through a mixture of predominantly black music (soul, hip-hop, R&B) and more predominantly white music (hardcore, powerviolence, metalcore). I've genuinely never heard such a massive range in an album that still feels cohesive.
