In my opinion one of the most underrated albums of all time. Every riff, every lyric, every bassline just hits, and it's all imbued with a swagger only John McCrea possesses. I might lack the context to know if this album is generic or not, but honestly, who even cares if the songs are this good? "Opera Singer" is an enchanting character portrait; "Meanwhile, Rick James..." is just a BOP all the way through; "Shadow Stabbing" keeps a steady, surreal vibe that I ... read more

The full realization of what was set up on their self titled. Manages both quanity and quality, with every song being different from but just as good as the last.

if i had a nickel for every time mark kozelek mentioned panera bread on this album, i would have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice

Originally a 65, now an 80 because just like all of their albums, it grows on you HARD. Continue as a Guest continues (no pun intended) the more orchestral and "vibey" sound of In the Morse Code of the Brake Lights, but brings in more elements of their classic, rock-focused sound. There's admittedly something about this album that sounds aged, but in that same way it sounds like a beautiful reflection on the last 8 albums and 23 years of their career.

I really wish I could rate this higher but given that I like about a quarter of moonchild, therefore I dislike 3/4 of 1/5 of the tracks, so I dislike 15% of the album sadly lowering it to an 85%. Every other song is literally perfect though.
Equal parts noisy and beautiful. This album is near perfect, every song is inventive but still fits perfectly into the vibe the album as a whole creates. I wasn't sure about the vocals when I first heard Cowboy Nudes, but having heard the whole album I love them. Cameron Winter (I think that's the vocalist, apologies if not) has this yelping sort of quality that vaguely reminds me of Isaac Wood, but with much more actual singing. I think my only problem with this album is the sequencing. 2122 ... read more
