I’m not really into this kind of music... al least until I found this album. I am kind of late to this, but after giving it a few listens I can only say a few things; The songs are great and never bore you for even a second, that being said, could there be more songs? Yes, absolutely. Would it benefit the album for the songs to be shorter? Yes. Could they’ve cut some parts that didn’t really sound as good or even sync up at some point, as this different time signature playing ... read more
I haven’t listened to the Strokes that much, only their first two albums, which were pretty good. This is a more pop/electronic oriented album than those early records but it is executed quite well. This feels like the Strokes are experimenting, which is exactly what they should be doing. (There is a reason everybody makes jokes about them playing Is This It for 2 decades) The best song in my opinion is Bad Decisions, imperative of the whole album, it is fun, catchy and still the Strokes, ... read more
While it’s my favorite; I wouldn’t call this an opus. Every album Rush made from ‘76 to ‘81 were all their best in their own right. However I feel that this one has everything I want from a Rush album, great solos, great riffs, great drums, great bass, and incredible songwriting, all the songs are great, and the first song picks up from their 4th best album and previous one, Xanadu. This gives the album a story and because it is the first song we are able to ponder what ... read more
This album is really when Geddy Lee masters the synthesizer. However some songs on here are weaker than other songs, making for a somewhat inconsistent listening experience, but still good.
Why do critics hate this so much, it is great.
Move over Beatles and Velvet Underground, these were the real stars of the 60’s.
Yikes this is very very bad. A history lesson; I found this album a while ago while looking through Queen’s catalogue, having not listened to one of their albums yet I picked this one for my first listen. I ended having new intrigue but not the kind I would’ve liked to have in a new band I found. I hated this band with a passion from that day, I felt as they had intentionally lured me in with interesting tracks from the start and had me listen to the album they threw together in ... read more
Name more than 5 tracks off of this album that you know the words to, after listening to the album I can name 4 tracks I remember enjoying. Passable but suffers from acute “one song is good so they all are” syndrome.(Bohemian Rhapsody)
A well off album with May’s manic riffing and Freddie’s vocals to give it foundation.
Incredible songwriting by the U2 boys. The opening riff of “Where the Streets Have No Name” is haunting.
No bad songs, but just strange choices and some lingering issues, like why include some of the songs even if they are OK? Like Hawkmoon 269, just a strange choice to me.
Honestly this album comes together as a picture in your head. That picture could be shaped by the musical interpretations you make of a dystopian future or a utopian paradise. This album is helped by the Zoo TV tour, one of the greatest tours ever.
I don’t know why I give so many albums 100s, probably because I barely review any bad ones. But this album truly deserves it, with it’s melancholy feel and rock sound, it’s title fits perfectly.
