Is there any album you would consider to be an important part of your life? Chances are, you’re gonna say yes, if you are on a site like this one, reading music reviews. I’m talking about those albums that, despite not being made for you specifically, feel very personal and that tell the story of your life, or at least a part of it. Those albums that are necessary to process and confront feelings and emotions too hard to assimilate on their own, the music working as a translator of ... read more
Didn’t want to listen to The Money Store without any prior experience with the band (I admit it I’m scared), so here I am.
But no, this isn’t very different at all from that LP, much less more accessible. It’s Death Grips at its primal form, that is, MC Ride rapping as if your life was in danger (and he’s the menace) and beats that blow and bend my mind, and I fucking love that. Doesn’t matter how many times I listen to “Takyon (Death Yon)” I ... read more
That reinforces the nostalgia even more, and that in turn makes this sound better. Both things boost each other, and that explains why, at least for me, this is one of the most essential soundtracks there is.
Got the cd for this one, signed by Gira himself!
Don't have much to say for the album itself, already have a review for it. For the Feel Good Now live record, it's the typical rough-sounding bashing-your-head-against-the-wall Swans, that's better enjoyed with max volume. But in turn it loses the detailed and very interesting production from the studio versions of the songs, so yeah, the better versions are on Children of God.
