They managed to mix Trip Hop, Shoegaze and Ambient, which is a very impressive feat on it's own. The repetitive nature of this album, and the "emptiness" of it doesn't really bother me that much, and tracks like Fear of Flying and Coming Down are prime examples of how should repetitiveness should be done. The Ambient cuts, such as Under the Sun and Postscript, are passable, with the latter being too long for my liking, even with it's blissful nature. Please check this ... read more
The remixes of Olson and Aquarius are pretty cool, but not something I would listen on a daily. XYZ is a very intresting and IDM-y song, but when it comes to Happy Cycling, it's a completly different thing. Happy Cycling is magical, serious, and although it feels kinda disconnected in this EP, it is still a top 5 BoC track.
A detour from their usual ambient stuff, with songs like Oirectine and Basefree being these really bouncy and psychdelic tracks. A nice EP/Mini Album nonethenless, although it is certainly more loose compared to their later works. The title track is definetly a standout, and a top 10 in their discography
Coming off from their Old Tunes phase, their debut EP is full of early IDM inspired tracks, with loud drum samples and a repetitive nature. A really funky and detuned experience from what the band would later become. But the reason why I even cared to rate this album is the last track, Everything you Do Is a Balloon, which is their best song by quit a long margin
Bliss, Ilusion and Nostalgia. With it being based on a surprisingly dark backstory, this EP is a perfect bridge between their debut and the haunting soundscapes of Geogaddi. Tracks like Kid for Today are the reason why I love this band
A really sweet compilation of tracks that might've had difficulty fitting anywhere else in this stacked discography. Although emptier than their other projects, the moments of joy, adventure, and specially the ambient interludes, are definetly appreciated
A very warm, and welcoming album, full of teenage energy and bliss. A far cry from the dauting Geogaddi, but arguably their most beautiful and "popiest" record.
A powerful "final" statement on the decaying state of the world. Anthem of hope, and hopelessness at the same time. What will be left of tommorow? And who will deal with our actions? One day, we will know.
Wicked in the best way possible. Music of nightmares, secrets, sublime messages, combined with production that could've only came from the depths bellow. One of the few albums that actually can scare someone
Sometimes serious, sometimes scary, or even blissful, these 18 briliantly produced tracks still hold up even more than 20 years after their original release, combined with an incomparable ambient smoothness.
