Despite the "unique" singing, I love the harshness and the fear of this album. Chills down the spine, and with some math rock influence, it makes this a very complex and enthralling project.
Foolish me once said the middle of this album is mid.

An unmixed and slightly worse version of Tri Repetae, in my opinion. Althought the lack of mixing and the "grainy" sounds have a lot of character and give this album a pretty strong identity, I can't for sure say all songs are memorable and intresting. There are exceptions to this, of course. The intro, Cipater, is such a developed track with those "crappy" drums and a daunting repetiviness at the end, and the progression of Nuane is kinda crazy. Also Chicili, what a ... read more
Second Bad Vilbel sounds like a beat made with the thurst of a Jet engine. They play it REALLY safe here, and it's is fairly repetitive and long, although Second Peng and Second Scepe deserve that lenght.
A step down from Amber in my opinion, but a great record anyway. It focuses more on the repetitiveness than the details in an album like Amber, and is one of their most accessible albums. Although, I feel it is emptier and looser than Amber, songs like Eutow, with that absolute NASTY drop, and Overrand with it's nice ambient orchestration make this album a pretty enjoyable experience overall
Maximalist Vaporwave if that is even a thing. A very chaotic and dizzying record, with some great moments, specially tracks such as "Loving is Easy" and the 8th track.
50 reviews in 3 days! Now that's what I call a speedrun
Anyway, what an awesome trip and record from the man himself. The hiatus was well worth it. The synths, drums, everything just dances and feels so cohesive. It feels like one big song at times. The final track, although a "vibe killer", is arguably his best piano song, and is a very emotional closer to such a groovy and "modernized" album. Love it!
Grim and Hypnotic, but not in a trip hop way. Really unique EP, and a very awaited return from them! Check this out
I would say this album is like popcorn, cause it's corny, but then I remembered you need to cook the corn to make popcorn.
An imperfect and distored recreation of Amber, and with its sadness even more blatant. I love the concept of recreating such an album, with imperfections. You can see the drums of Further in the title track, the weird noises of Montreal in PIOBmx and most importantly, the sadness of the ambient pads and synths from songs like Nine and Nil. Their most emotional work.
A final statement before a 10 year break. An antiwar album at heart, this lenghty record with even leghtier 3 songs treats with such respect and disgust the events of different wars, such as the pallestine conflict, vietnam invasion and 9/11 or War on Terror. It all comes close in Motherfucker=Redeemer, such a powerful track, and a (until then) nice conclusion to such a great run in the late 90s and early 2000s. This record speaks for itself
This album is funny, but so repetitive and boring. The intro is a prime example, with a beautiful synth in the middle that ends with mediocre drums that don't change. It doesn't feel well mixed, specially in songs like Come on You Slags. There are some good tracks here and there. Mookid, The Waxen Pith and mainly Alberto Balsam, a top 10 Aphex Twin song. Despite that, a pretty disapointing album from the IDM superstar
This album is nausiatingly crazy. The infusion of Jazz and DnB and IDM at the same time is crazy, specially the way Squarepusher does it in this album. The bass on Squarepusher Theme is INSANE, and to be frank, the only things holding this album down is its lenght. Some songs extend for too long, and the ambient interludes are nothing special. But check this out if you want to have your mind blown
