Well I guess I'm back! I would have prefer not to given how mid this is!
You can tell right away this album is on another level. I have to listen to it more times cause there is a lot to unpack in here but so far, the orchestral production is massive, the real strings, choirs, all mixed with electronic textures that somehow never clash. I love how beatifully mixed this is, it breathes a lot, every reverb tail and stereo layer feels intentional.

Kevin stepping into club-psych and techno territory could’ve been interesting. But Deadbeat ends up feeling flat for me.
What bugs me most is the sense of directionless songwriting. There are moments that tease potential, but too many tracks fade instead of grabbing you. Tempo changes feel disjointed, hooks are weak, and the interplay of guitars, synths and beats lacks the cohesion of Kevin’s earlier work. I don’t even know where to start. D’Angelo wasn’t just another artist to me, his music got into my life in a way I didn’t expect.
