For A record I gave a 65, I had WAY too much with this first half. It’s such a fun ass record. That is until Top Ramen, where all momentum slows down. In the next track, MY EX, the remaining momentum is brutally murdered. Then everything else after it is alright. This first half is special though.
(My 200th Rating/Review!)
Is it perfect? Nah, it has a few tracks I could do without, and the tracks near the middle do sorta blend into each other, but I am completely enthralled by this album. The concept is pretty fucking cool, and Daveed’s delivery works perfectly at points. I still feel like I have way more to decipher when it comes to its story. Overall, I had an amazing time with this thing.
Still listening to the record but I feel like I could just state my opinions now, because I don't think anything is gonna change. Everything being done here, has been done way better. Duster, Have A Nice Life, and even Joy Division, which I thought was a tiny bit farfetched after reading a review mentioning them before listening, thinking about how strange of a comparison it was. The longer this record went on however, the less I could keep myself from just making that exact comparison, and ... read more
Consistently alright record, few standouts near the end but nothing really caught my attention or stood out to me in particular. It never sounded relatively "bad" though, so I feel like I should give it at least a little bit of credit. I remember really liking this album ago, like when I was bumping AJR and boywithuke (π), and it's cool to hear that it at least partially stood the test of time.
Like Because the Internet, it's just one of those classics that I (mostly) can't get tired of. It's actually mind boggling how catchy ever chorus is. I think Cudi utilizes his voice the most in this record. Length is a tiny problem, as I could do with a few less tracks, but the mid songs are still solid enough the keep me from turning the album off.
At some points it can feel a little hit or miss, no doubt about that. But in its best moments, the noisy abstract nature of this album wins me over. The creativity and genius is through the roof and totally present in this project, even if it doesn’t fully stick the landing. The album feels like it’s setting the groundwork for future clipping. material.
I don't know what happened. Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention, but this thing is as underdeveloped as Jesus Is King. The only difference being the last third of this record being honestly bearable and kinda refreshing, cause the songs sound at least sort of finished. I do plan on relistening but I don't really feel like anything would change about it. I just think I'm angry that we are 20 years into his career and he's somehow making bad music when I know he still has it in him to make ... read more
A good portion of this album is not bad, but wildly uninteresting. The standouts are super replayable though. Even some of the instrumentals have been on repeat. Can’t wait to listen to plastic death cause this thing oozes with potential.
After listening to Twin Fantasy (Face to Face), this album feels like the definition of working with what you got. It makes me appreciate the Face to Face version more to be honest, but maybe I ruined the experience of this album by listening to the more refined version.
Had a fun time with this one for sure. Mostly every chorus banged, and even if there are points where I feel so so about the vocals, I still enjoyed it. Though directionless, no song is inherently bad, though the better tracks definitely stand out. Feel like I could fuck with a more cohesive ericdoa project in the future. Can’t wait.
Revisiting this album made me appreciate it more, even if the score is lowered. Overall, I like the tracks I didn't care for way more than I used to, and the highs (20$, Cool About It, Not Strong Enough, Satanist) got better for me. The only thing I don't like is the 3 track run at the end of the record. Sounds like the outtakes that they dropped a few months after this thing came out, sort of like a in one ear and out the other type deal. If they continue a more upbeat approach that they did ... read more
I have some fun with a few of these tracks, some even taking me back to 2022, but the back half of this record has absolutely nothing going for it. Underdeveloped songs, lackluster features, and overall a waste of time. This could be lower but I still did have fun with some of this, even if the length hurts it.
The idea of a Death Grips album that uses Björk samples has always sounded intriguing to me, so i decided to give this a full listen. I know I could've just listened to The Powers That B, because it has this album and Jenny Death together, but I think way I listen to these albums (either back to back with TPTB or separate) could still affect my rating. I love the first five tracks, they are pretty incredible, and I think Black Quarterback is tied with The Fever (Aye Aye) as my favorite ... read more
added this to my list because I thought the cover looked cool. Its not great. Feels pretty unoriginal and stale, as if I've heard all the material here before.
Great production and some standout tracks, but the back half of this record falls flat.
I like this thing I really do, but there are some glaring issues that I can’t overlook. I really like Lil Ugly Mane, and this album got me into him. Sure it’s not like most of his other past work, but it left me feeling like I needed to check out his discography. Anyways, basically the album means a bunch to me. The issue, or at least the main one, is that it feels way too long. There are points in his music where Lil Ugly Mane struggles to keep my attention but the uninteresting ... read more
its cool and I like all of the tracks here. Nothing groundbreaking, but it's some really good shoegaze. I think the reason I had given it an 100 is because I hadn't heard much shoegaze and thought this is the best the genre had to offer. Pretty solid.
Took me a good two weeks to finally sit down and listen but here it is. Sadly it is a downgrade from their 2022 release “The Now Now And Never”, but it’s taking a more post rock approach than that album, so I can’t judge it too harshly when this feels more like a transitional period that the artist is going through. That being said this album doesn’t feel very focused. There are highlights for sure, but most of it is just alright. Like it’s fine, but ... read more
