Boards of Canada - Music Has The Right To Children (1998)
Boards of Canada’s debut album is a journey in and out of itself, it portrays nostalgic, foggy images of times long past through the use of icy synths and eclectic sampling which makes for a otherworldly listening experience. The flow of this album feels like a soundtrack as it has widely varying track lengths (from upwards of 6 minutes to just 58 seconds), this works well as it makes the music feel like it was made for a film ... read more
Playboi Carti - Whole Lotta Red (2020)
Whole Lotta Red sees Playboi Carti move into a new sonic direction, implementing elements of Rage into his sound which makes this album much more aggressive than his previous, additionally Carti’s vocals are much more aggressive and guttural on some tracks which further showcases this new sound. I personally prefer his style on his previous two albums but there is some standouts here, I do wish he trimmed 5-6 tracks from here though as it is VERY ... read more
Playboi Carti - Die Lit (2018)
Die Lit sees Playboi Carti expand out from the sound he created on his self-titled mixtape, using more hi-fi and spacious beats, a plethora of entertaining features and his infamous “baby voice” to create one of my favourite trap albums of all time. This album does contain 19 tracks which runs up to 58 minutes, making it feel a little bloated as 2-3 could have been cut for a more concise experience which I believe Carti’s music is suited to, ... read more
Playboi Carti - Playboi Carti (2017)
Playboi Carti’s debut mixtape focuses more on flow and atmosphere than on lyricism and storytelling, creating an experience that doesn’t require full concentration to be enjoyed. The beats here range from ethereal to hypnotic, with Carti’s often mumbled and repetitive delivery the tracks here do not offer much in terms of deeper meaning but they sure are a lot of fun to listen to. While a couple of misses in the tracklist drag my rating ... read more
Radiohead - A Moon Shaped Pool (2016)
Radiohead’s most recent album is their most subtle yet, it represents a band that has evolved to the point of not needing to try too hard to showcase their vision. This album is underpinned by its incredibly raw emotion and vulnerability that we saw glimpses of on In Rainbows but come into fall affect here as this is one depressing album, it works well however as Thom’s vocals that have matured into a holy falsetto that allow this to be ... read more
