I genuinely don't know what to do with this.

First of all, if you remove every single Kanye verse, that would be a step forward for the album. The mixing generally is pretty terrible. Everything feels not quite complete.

I believe that separating art from the artist is a real thing. But I cannot apply this to this record, when I'm getting reminded of what Kanye did and still seems to stand for. "Keep a few Jews on the staff now", "Crazy, bipolar, antisemite. And I'm still the ... read more

Metallica - Master of Puppets

The mixing on here is just perfect.

Every song has an interesting story to tell. Even Orion, a nearly 9 minute instrumental, takes you on a trip. It's amazing how inbetween all these incredible songs, the instrumental is my favourite.

The Cardigans - Gran Turismo

A wild peggy sample appeared. "My favourite game" is the reason why I checked this out. So I had no idea that was on here.

Recently re-discovered my favourite game. And it autoplayed the next song on the album, "Do you believe". And that song absolutely slaps. And the rest of the album holds up.

A lot of the songs are borderline repetitive, but the varied instrumental palette keeps it interesting. I especially like the more raw and industrial sounding parts. Like the ... read more

Kid Cudi - INSANO

This feels soulless. Like Cudi is pushing himself into genres he doesn't care about. I'm not a big fan of trap in general, but especially this feels like it's only a trap record because trap is doing numbers.

Rihanna - Loud

Wow, as a kid I had no idea how horny all these songs are.

It's a decent pop album, it has some of my major annoyances with pop music. Like the "nananana" on S&M, "rum-pum-pum-pum" on Man Down and "eenie meenie mo" on Raining Men. You're just making noises because it's catchy at that point. And I think it works on S&M, but Man Down just sounds silly to me.

Raining Men is the worst song here. Air horn sound effects, making noises because it's ... read more

Sampha - Lahai

This is beautiful.

Sampha's voice is incredible. It's so tender and mesmerising, the voice of an angel. Paired with amazing instrumentals. There are some killer drums on here. Which I wasn't expecting at all. That moment when they kick in on Suspended is amazing. I felt like I was levitating. But my favourite moment on here is the final minute of Inclination Compass. Wow those drums are amazing. I have some issues with some songs lasting quite a while. And I was fearing that might happen on ... read more

It took me 3 months to finally write this review, but here we are.

It took me a while to really get into this album. I had it down around a 7/10 before, but after not listening to it for ages. When I finally did, it just clicked. Sonically it is not mind blowing, there are even some moment that I don't think sound great at all. Like Lupe going for a more melodic approach at the start of the second verse of Blur My Hands. Using the F-slur on prisoner 1 & 2. The "pretty darn ... read more

Eminem - Encore

Listening to the Eminem show just before this really puts into perspective how awful this record is. And the Eminem show isn't even my favourite.

The whole mid section of the album is so unbelievably awful. I didn't even listen to Puke this time. I remember it being awful. And I honestly don't feel the need to ever relive it. My 1st single has the worst beat ever, the clacking noise is so incredibly annoying. The flow even sounds annoying and the chorus is something else. I don't even want to ... read more

Eminem - The Eminem Show

This used to be one of my favourite albums. And while I still think it’s great, I don’t ever go back to it.

There’s some serious greatness on this record. Cleaning out my closet, without me, till I collapse. But there’s also awfulness here, as usual. Drips is disgusting. I love how when the music stops starts, but Bizzare has to ruin it. Just like the mmlp1.

White america, while an amazing topical song. Just sounds awful to my ears. I don’t like the chorus at ... read more

Eminem - Infinite

It's okay, has some awful moments like Maxine. But also showed some promise in It's OK. Honestly, this already sounds like the blueprint of later to be Eminem. Everything on here is just less extreme. You can see him trying to do some shock value on Maxime and backstabber. And speaking his mind on It's OK. Also the similes he's using all over the place will be very prominent later.
Overall this album isn't very special, it sounds like it had a lot of influences. It doesn't stand out very ... read more

death's dynamic shroud - Faith in Persona

Loving the ideas on here. The songs are so disconnected from the original sample but still bring out the best of the original. The record is very front loaded for me, I absolutely love the first 3 tracks. With my favourite moment being the drop on See Me. The track starts a little slow, but the drop absolutely makes up for it.
I'm a bit disappointed in the ending, I didn't really care for the last track. It's feels very long and doesn't develop all that much. And the 1min of silence sure is ... read more

Lupe Fiasco - Lupe Fiasco's The Cool

Lupe has this amazing ability to make lyrically complex and powerful songs into bops. I have some issues with the beats and choruses on some tracks (Gotta eat, Hello/Goodbye, Go baby).

But I can't help but excessively bop my head to songs like Little Weapon, despite how dark the lyrics are.

The biggest standout of the album to me is how amazing the balance is between soft and harsh sounds. I love noise, but for it to work you need to switch it up occasionally. And this album achieves that balance perfectly.

I also love the singers voice. Especially on the softer moments. It's almost calming?? It carries a lot of presence as well, it pierces through the instrumental (in a good way). When I sometimes struggle to hear the lyrics, everything was perfectly clear on here. As for the ... read more

JAY-Z - 4:44

This album is amazing.

It's filled with samples but still feels really unique. No ID did a fantastic job on the production. But what makes this so special is Jay-z's vulnerability and openness. All the lyrics feel super genuine. On 4:44 especially.

Kill Jay-Z is a fantastic intro. Distancing himself from his artistic persona and introducing a bunch of topics on his mind. The story of OJ imo is a classic. Followed up with my favourite moment on this album. Which is the first verse of Smile. ... read more

Nas - King's Disease
60

This is my least favourite album out of the 2 trilogies.
I don't think Nas does super well on the more simple tracks, like Ultra black. Which sounds counter-intuitive, but Nas for me doesn't have the same punch as other rappers in that aspect. Nas in his element is him on a story track, introspective and story telling Nas are my favourite. But those songs on here don't really do it either for me. And I think it's because the choruses are quite weak. They are low energy and very similar to each ... read more

Stormzy - Heavy Is the Head

A good mix of bangers and emotionally driven songs.
But I feel like some songs try to do the same thing that's already been done on the album. Wiley flow and bronze as a duo as example. Wiley flow is great. But bronze is doing about the same as a song, but worse. So I'd rather have every song be unique than have a bunch of duplicates.
The highs of the project are amazing though. I love crown and rainfall back to back. Then the only interlude is beautiful and really pretty. Into one second, ... read more

Chief Keef - Finally Rich

Had fun with this, I dont like, hate being sober and laughin to the bank go hard asf. But the second half didn't bring the same energy as the first half.

Black Thought & Danger Mouse - Cheat Codes
90

This has become to be my comfort album.

Whenever I don't feel like listening to anything focussed, or just want to have a good time. I'll put this on. It's raw, unfiltered, filled with great bars, with great features and production. It sounding so raw and almost unfinished on the production side makes the vibe even stronger for me. It really feels like a 20-30 year old record that was found during a flood somewhere. And it absolutely slaps.

The Prodigy - The Fat of the Land

Eventually.. everything will become crab...

I didn't know what to expect going in, with a genre called "big beat". But they might as well call it massive beat, or gigantic beat. Because these are some BIG beats. Love it.

JPEGMAFIA - All My Heroes Are Cornballs
90

This might not be my favourite peggy project. But this, for me, defines his identity the best.

All my heroes are cornballs is chaotic but calm at the same time. Peggy shows his feminine side on this project, with melodic singing. Lot's of weird autotune, but still has the bursts of uncontrolled anger on some tracks. Peggy is unfiltered as ever, calling out anyone he feels like. While hiding some topical songs like grimy waifu, which is a clever song about his gun. Disguised as a love song. And ... read more

On Eminem - The Marshall Mathers LP
"I actually haven't listened this this album in a long time, I did the track ratings based of memory. Since I used to listen to this album all the time. But that particular song I never got into. My song scoring is purely of how much I enjoy something in the moment. So it's probably time for a redo."
