*Rewriting this review because of the significance of this album for me.*
I only got into music fairly recently, like about 4 years ago. And at time I was just going on youtube, clicking thought the popular songs that were recommended to me. When I got to Love The Way You Lie, all I did was listen to the music from the radio at that time. In the car and from my clock radio I had. So I knew I liked that song, but I didn't remember there being a rap part on the song. I don't know if that was ... read more
Such a shame this isn't on spotify. Besides the verses on I Want It I Need It, I love everything about it. Despite giving this a 9.3 on the first few listens. I have the feeling this might be a grower.
Super sweet and dreamy record. The album cover describes it perfectly. Musician made me check this out and Im glad I did.
individually nearly all these tracks are top tier. With Survival of the Fittest, Temperature's Rising and Shook Ones, Pt. II as standouts. Trife Life is my least favourite, don't like how the vocals are echoing at all. As a whole project I feel like it drags on for quite a while. There's not too much variation in terms of sound and subject matter. Taking that into account it takes my rating down a bit.
*LIVE NOTES REVIEW*
GREEN LIGHT:
- fantastic and dynamic instrumental
- love the refrain
- not the biggest fan of the pitched up phrase that keeps repeating throughout the song. But I do think it works very well.
SOBER:
- the build-up throughout the first chorus is so good. There's so much anticipation for the track to finally explode. But it doesn't
- Until it finally switches up near the end. Which isn't quite the explosion, but I think its a great change of pace.
- I did hope it would be a ... read more
I rarely come back to this...
Because all the songs are already in my playlist.
TLDR:
This project is extremely uninteresting. All the beats are very similar, lots of intros and outros that don't go anywhere. And ideas that aren't worked out. 90% of the tracklist feels like filler.
Inwood hill park is still worth checking out.
Live notes while listening:
Into is scattered and confusing. There are a lot of different ideas, but it isn't very clear where things will go. Not a fan of the vocal panning effects.
Inwood hill park:
- I love this track actually, the chorus is ... read more

The narrative throughout this album makes it a great experience to listen and follow along to. Superbug was a bit too long for it's content. Besides that everything is very solid. With mars for the rich and hell being standouts.
BOO BOO BOOO BOO BOOOMMMM!!!
The album gets carried by the features and production. Travis is alright, but that's about it on most tracks. I don't think his lyrics are very interesting, so I see him more as the guy assembling the avengers for the features.
Never heard of Teezo touchdown before, but that feature was amazing. James blake did his thing as always. 21 was a bit disappointing, he brought the usual. But nothing special. Drake was actually surprisingly good, it was refreshing and ... read more
Escape sounds like it was put on the record for radio playtime, but besides that its perfect.
I listened to master of puppets before this, so technically this it the prequel. But for me, it was a worthy sequel.
Something real is a banger. But pretty much everything else is super unoriginal and formulaic, throughout the middle portion I wouldn't be able to pick apart what song was playing because of how generic they sound.
So it's not horrible, but a lot is generic and non-specific.
There's a lot of artistical choice I like, production is great throughout. But for me the many awkward rhymes and straight up terrible punchlines stick out as a sore thumb. The lyrics at many points are so bad that it completely takes me out of the vibe of the music.
There were some moments and the kenny mason feature was great. But that's about it, the writing is a major weak point.
