Jeff Mangum is the singer and main powerhouse behind Neutral Milk Hotel. one day, he was in a book store and happened to pick up a copy of Anne Frank’s diary. upon reading it, he completely flipped out and spent multiple days crying because of her story and it stuck with him for a long time. this is what inspired him to write this album.

this album is extremely special to me. it was my favorite album for a really long time and it’s still one of my favorites to this day. every instrumental is beautifully layered and singer Dave Bayley compliments them extremely well with his voice. a lot of these songs also have incredible progression, for example, Pork Soda starts off chill and kinda slow but then builds to an explosion of raw emotion at the last chorus. i would highly recommend watching the music videos for this album as ... read more

good kid, m.A.A.d city is a look into life in Compton. Kendrick details the many struggles of growing up in Compton like poverty, violence, alcohol, and peer pressure. He addresses these topics through his incredible storytelling that is so detailed it’ll make you feel like you’re actually there. this might be the most consistently good album i’ve ever heard; besides Garden Shed which is my obvious #1, almost every song could be my favorite. this is also an extremely important album to me because it’s the first album i ever listened to and it helped me get into music.
