Big, grandiose, and just a little bit cheesy sometimes but the genuine passion in this project and the story it tells made me cry and also headbang. It's a prog metal rock opera about a comatose man exploring his own 'self' and confronting the traumas and conflicts in his life. It's just wonderful
The album to officially kick me back into a proper metal phase again. This shit goes so goddamn hard and yet lyrically is genuinely beautiful and powerful with a strong environmentalist message and a kickass overall concept.
Good shit give'r a listen
Another high school soundtrack for me. This was always my favorite of their discography. It retains the whimsy of the first album but its louder and just goes harder in every regard. That's not a slight against their first album. Its just a more mellow vibe compared to the immediately apparent added abrasiveness of this sophomore effort.
Another good ol' boombox era Mountain Goats record. I gave it 1 more point than Nine Black Poppies because I like lookin at the album art.
Some classic Mountain Goats. I am biased because its The Mountain Goats. What if I AM The Mountain Goats??!?
Great songwriting as always. The title track is a banger.
*disclaimer: I am not The Mountain Goats.
Super nostalgic. One of the albums that defined me in high school. That being said some of the verses are a little corny now, there's some major tonal whiplash and lack of structure as its really just a haphazardly thrown together collection of songs some in different genres all together. Still tho it's undeniably charming and worth a listen. Aisle 10 is a classic. Crawlin' and Space to Share still get me all emotional. And the closing track is kind of a banger I'll give him that one.
Gotta be the peak of pop (at least to my pretentious ass) consistently cheerful and upbeat and never coming off as vapid or disingenuous. All the creativity of the first album but with even tighter production with a little more j-pop influence. Also Trampoline is a goddamn life philosophy. Don't forget to bounce!
BEST FLOYD ALBUM FIGHT ME.
Nah but for real this one in particular resonates with me more than all the others to this day. The biting political satire, the impeccable synth and guitar work, the sheer scale and scope of it all with it being primarily big ass tracks with some little bookends. If you listen to ANY Pink Floyd album listen to Dark Side of the Moon (I mean let's be real) but listen to this one afterward god dammit
Impeccable songwriting and concept nestled comfortably beneath some of the best and catchiest indie punk of its time. Tells a story of young lovers struggling to survive amongst the kind of violent theocratic fascist regime that Zappa foresaw in out own future. Best album pls listen
