The Strokes - Going Shopping
NR

Julian, I love you but you're bringing me down...
The songs fine. The instrumentals nice, and there's a good chill vibe throughout the album. It reminds me of a Comedown Machine track - nothing crazy, but still a pleasant chill song. But then there's the autotune. We're actually autotuning for the sake of it here, it's used for no reason, and just sounds amateurish and bland. Its not as aggregious as on the Voidz album, but the song would be infinitely better without ... read more

Album's good and whatever but more importantly, this is unironically good computer science revision. I'm feeling like I'm very slightly less likely to get screwed over by some HTML bullshit now this is in the back of my mind.

파란노을 [Parannoul] - Sky Hundred
90

'To See The Next Part of the Dream' found brutally mogged in the streets? It's certainly looking that way, despite 'Sky Hundred' not having as high highs. Every song on this is just shoegaze perfection. The first run of tracks is incredible, consistently amazing up until 'Lights Off Repentance', which would've joined them if it didn't start crumbling away at the end. I guess that's just the price of being within the gravitational field of ... read more

Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures

Whenever I listen to a generational, classic album like this, there's always a 50/50 chance of it being the greatest musical experience of all time, or really really underwhelming. This is a good album. Its got some good songs, a good atmosphere, and what was probably amazing production for its time. My favourite part of this, though, is that it feels like a proto-Interpol, showing a very clear Pokemon-style evolution of the post-punk genre into my favourite album of all time. This does ... read more

Ween - Quebec

It's my friends birthday today and what's a better birthday present than listening to an album he's been glazing as of late? And its a pretty damn good album at that. Similiarly to the other Ween album I've listened to, its a mixed bag of various psychadelic tracks which consistently inconsistently slap, however this brutally Weenmogs the Mollusk imo. I definitely prefer the more psychadelic vibe of this to the Mollusk's oceanic vibe, with Quebec been more consistent ... read more

Slayyyter - WOR$T GIRL IN AMERICA

I didn't know much about this album outside of the fact that it was an insanely hyped pop album. From that, I was pretty confident it'd go one of two ways: either be an Imaginal Disk / Wallsocket and change my life, or be a brat and be a little underwhelming. Now whilst this doesn't fully live up to the hype imo, its still a very solid electropop album. The production is definitely my favourite part, especially on the first run of tracks, which were all pretty fire. After them, ... read more

The Fencesitters - Picture Day

My thoughts on this album? Yeah I'm still undecided. haha. ha

All jokes aside this is fire. The instrumentation is awesome, building up to some really epic, noisy climaxes. Pre-interlude, it is just a set of straight bangers, and whilst it does lose some steam after 'again', there's still some really amazing moments. friend's house is just like a pokemon champion but instead of pokemon they're furries and instead of making them fight they make them make fire music.

underscores - fishmonger

Really the Cherry Bomb of underscores' discography. Its very rough around the edges, and is somewhat not good in places, but I still love it. Its got some of her best songs on it, and is filled with enough uniqueness and charm to make up for any shortcomings.

Robin Callaway - noisehigh

Another banger from Robin Callaway. I definitely prefer i saw an angel in the mirror as a whole project, mostly just because this album does feel like it has stretches of nothingness at times, but the highs are equally as high, keeping the epicness of the last project whilst possibly feeling a bit more refined. The naming scheme for the songs lowkey annoys me, but the album cover is cool, making up for it. Review done, now I just need to wait for criticallaway and Crack_Enjoyer to give me a ... read more

She's so cool bro this is so fire. Its a tight 35 minutes purely packed with banger pop songs. The electronic dancey production is absolutely phenomenal, probably her best yet, and the song writing is great too. Seeing as I came into it feeling a little sceptical, I'm really really happy with what we've got, loving it even more on a third listen. It may not have the quirky charm and world building of Wallsocket, but it isn't going for that - its going for being a short, fun ... read more

NBASuperfan71 - Inaba Tapes

How do you rate an intentionally bad album? Like obviously the rapping is horrible, seemingly fully freestyled with less than 0 flow, but that's kinda the point. But then I remembered I gave Like All Before You by the Voidz a 50 and this album brought me more joy than that ever did. It is genuinely funny at times, obviously corny at points with lots of jokes that don't land, but again that's seemingly pretty intentional. The beats are all great - they are just Persona songs but ... read more

きのこ帝国 [Kinoko Teikoku] - Eureka

After the first two tracks, I was a bit worried this wouldn't live up to the monumental expectations that Uzu Ni Naru gave me. It did though. Outside of the comparatively weaker intro tracks, this is another practically perfect shoegaze album from Kinoko Teikoku. The vocals are phenomenal, the instrumentals are beautiful, and the songs are all pretty catchy, too. My one complaint is why the hell did you have to put 3 minutes of silence before the bonus track, the closer would have been ... read more

A Hidden Trace - Remember to Forget

Gem alert! This is a really great album from the singer of Chinese Football. The instrumentation is amazing, all really summery and beautiful, and complement the vocals really well. The highs of this album are insane - Midnight is one of the best things I've heard in a while and Here Comes the Deers is an excellent closer. Awesome album.

P.E.E. - Now, More Charm and More Tender

Pissed myself twice due to this album cover. Once from the initial laughter. A second time from the fear of what this man may do to me if I don't follow his command. A very good emo (peemo) twee pop (pee pop god damn I'm funny) album though. Its very short, but still packed with plenty of great songs. When they do go for a longer song, it always lands so I would've liked to see more of them but having a variety of minute long songs still works, and I guess it means I can get away ... read more

I don't get to listen to bad albums often so this was pretty fun. In terms of the good, it was definitely entertaining. In terms of the bad, there's a lot.
The stinky elephant shit in the room is the vocalist. He sucks. At times he sounds like he's in pain. At other times he sounds like Josh Hommes doing a shitty Jack Black impression, and I have to apologize to all QOTSA fans for even daring to make that comparison. He takes some songs from being decent to being bad, and other ... read more

Singapore? I thought they were actually pretty good. haha.

The atmosphere throughout the whole project is amazing, super chill and pretty, complimenting Yeule's vocals well and creating a dreamy feel to the album. The tracklist was pretty consistently great, with the standouts in my opinion being Pretty Bones and Pixel Affection. The closer, whilst not being something I'd listen to outside of the album, hit pretty hard too, jumpscaring you with a harsher ending contrasting the quiet ... read more

椎名林檎 [Ringo Sheena] - 勝訴ストリップ [Winning Strip]

Yeah this is pretty awesome... I've only listened to one other Sheena Ringo project - Japanese Manners - being the one that my friend said was his favourite, and it was very good, but I didn't fully get the Ringo hype. Now if he had recommended me this, that would be a completely different story. The instrumentals are all epic as heck, and I love the rockier direction they go in. Obviously, Sheena's vocals are incredible. I also appreciated when she experimented a little, ... read more

Gorillaz - The Mountain

Some people may call this the Indian Gorillaz album. I call this the normal Gorillaz album. Just a glimpse into how Indian my mind has become...

Anyway, this was a surprisingly solid album from the big G. Outside of Song Machine, post-Plastic-Beach Gorillaz has been a bit underwhelming, but this seems to be a return to form. Its brought back the creativity that Gorillaz is known for, and has strong performances from the features and Damon alike, without one overshadowing the other. Sonically, ... read more

yeah we are not beating the loud-quiet-emo-indie-nicheslop allegations with this one. super solid album though. the highlights rival some of the best glass beach songs, which is pretty impressive, and the final 3 track run (excluding outro ofc) is incredible. solid chance the score grows on relistens

2814 - 新しい日の誕生 [Birth of a New Day]

Super nice vibey ambient album. The soundscapes on this were so cool, basically sounding like what you'd guess from the album cover. Its not something Id listen to often, but it was definitely nice in the background whilst doing some work.
