Dealers Of God - Dealer's Choice

This is one of the more interesting albums I've heard in a while, for better or for worse. It a mixed bag of experimental hip-hop, pop, and other genres encased in some really cool psychedelic production. The vocals were very Australian and pretty chill, not the most engaging but added to the dreamy atmosphere of this project. It is, however, very bloated and too long in my opinion. A lot of this album could've been trimmed down to make this something I'd want to come back to. ... read more

nothing about the album cover told me 'experimental hip hop' but its tuff nonetheless. this is such a fun listen - the beats are all fire, the energy is kept up throughout the whole thing, and the lyrics are super funny and packed with nerdy references. its definitely very Peggycore, and her flow could get a bit repetitive at times, but all negatives were balanced out by the Pokemon sample and Neon White reference.

Sounds like you've been transported into a dystopia Wii home screen. Feels quite somber and lonely, but in a strangely relaxing way.

Just a short, fun listen with great production but I fully thought Underscores was the one that dropped the n-word whilst listening to it

Unbiased review:
This is a really good soundtrack. Its super fun and packed with whimsy and joy, with there being loads of memorable songs. The location songs set the vibe of the location perfectly, especially everything to do with Harrisville, and the battle themes are all really fun and high energy. Disc 3 is a bit weaker, but the other 2 make up for it.

Biased review:

I played the first song and thought to myself, "shoot, this would probably go crazy if I was on a walk right now". It was cold, windy and rained a little - a typical British January - but that didn't matter as simply being outside really helped elevate this album. This is a truly beautiful piece of music. It feels like being a child, running around a small rural village, playing and enjoying life. Most songs are extremely pretty and full of emotion, but then a few feel more ... read more

rip this guys girlfriend cus she made a fantastic j-rock shoegaze album; its nothing revolutionary, but has some really great standout moments which made for an extremely enjoyable listen. also the album cover is pretty awesome

This is it - peak music. I'm struggling to verbalize what makes this so good, outside of everything about this just hitting perfectly. Every song is a banger, super catchy and memorable. Julian's vocals are really interesting and the vocal effects create a super unique vibe for the whole album. The two guitars play perfectly off one another and come together to create some incredible instrumentals. There's just a feeling to this album of coolness and nostalgia which puts this ... read more

Interpol - Turn on the Bright Lights

This might be the most perfect track list in music ever. Every song fully hits and sounds like heroin for your ears. The atmosphere on this album is incredible, dark and eerie and claustrophobic and sad, yet beautiful, and compliments Paul Banks' unique vocals perfectly. I don't know what was going around in early 2000s New York, but its produced some of the best albums ever.

This is probably my favourite Armand Hammer album. Every beat is so smooth and compliment both billy and ELUCID's unique styles whilst allowing them to flow effortlessly over them, creating a super satisfying listen overall. The Earl feature is obviously incredible, but the standout song for me is Stonefruit - I could listen to ELUCID singing for hours , its just so fire. Billy never seems to miss with a closer song. Don't like the album cover though it makes me sad :(

Godspeed You! Black Emperor - Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven!

Wow, I can see why this is the 5th highest rated album ever. It's simultaneously epic, beautiful and devastating in equal parts, with the highs of this album being some of the highest in music. I would say that the more ambient, less intense parts can stretch on for a bit too long for my liking, feeling less like build up and more like a time waster, but that doesn't mean that its not worth waiting through them to reach the truly divine peaks. I just wish it wasn't taken off ... read more

Chris Christodoulou - Risk of Rain 2

I came across a chest early in the run - purple, signifying utility. I was playing Captain, a rather cumbersome character who depends on items for movement, so I was excited by the prospect of getting something to speed me up. I was blessed by the Wax Quail. This was exactly what I needed, a quick burst of speed every time I jumped whilst sprinting. I smiled.

I then stumbled upon a shrine, a shrine of chance. I'm not a gambling man, I don't like to take risks, but something felt ... read more

I was able to get a polychrome baron on ante 2, dupe it, and get a mime on ante 4. Unfortunately, I was a bit unlucky with tarots, and wasn't able to get a steel king 'til ante 6, however, once I was able to get the ball rolling and began building, the deck started to come together, and my god was it beautiful. I was then able to find a red seal and slap that baby on a steel king - almost dropped my steam deck in excitement. Got to ante 13 in the end, nothing crazy by any means, but ... read more

McKinley Dixon - Who Taught You To Hate Yourself?

listening to McKinley's debut made it very clear to me that he was always going to make something magical. sure, its a bit amateurish, and could do with some further polishing, but you can still taste all the ingredients that make his later albums so great in this album. his lyricism is poetic, the instrumentals are lush and beautiful, and you can still feel his passion and emotion. its a beautiful start to one of the strongest and most consistent discographies of the modern day. ily ... read more

Danny Brown - Stardust

A very different direction for Daniel, but definitely a welcome one. This is one of his most fun efforts, and I think the hyperpop/EDM influences work great for this album. I don't think this has Danny's best rapping performances (not bad by any means just not as great as he usually is), however that's made up by the amazing features. Whilst I liked some features better than others, overall they were pretty consistently the stars of their songs - some stand outs being the ... read more

Possibly the catchiest album of all time - I've had a different song from this stuck in my head every day for the past two weeks. Its packed with super fun, high-energy songs that are insanely addictive, as well as some slower, sadder songs that make for a great change of pace. I also love the lyrics on this, and how she is able to mask the harrowingly creepy lyrics of songs like Johnny or You Don't Even Know Who I Am within some banger songs.

Joey Valence & Brae - HYPERYOUTH

Another great album from JVB. It's high energy, super entertaining, funny, and really really well produced, probably their best production yet. I don't love it as much as NO HANDS though, and for a pretty thematic reason - they've matured as artists. On the one hand, its good to see them grow, and gives us some great, slower, more introspective tracks that were my favourite on the album. However the more mature feel of this album takes away some of the charm of their last album, ... read more

Tyler, The Creator - Cherry Bomb

This album is actually so bad 😭😭😭

It's an absolute incoherent mess. Production-wise it switches from loud and abrasive to angelical and serene without warning, and the mixing sucks in places. You've got songs like Fucking Young, a banger with his most genuine yet disturbing lyrics to date, Cherry Bomb, an insane mess of distortion (and a top-5 Tyler song), and Run, which is Tyler's most nothing song to date. 10/10 album, loved every second of it.
