Weatherday - Hornet Disaster

Consistently an awesome album. With there being almost 20 songs, not having a single low point is impressive. The lofi sound is so cool, and all the instrumentals slap. Might be a little too long to have me repeatedly coming back, though, but then again more music is never a bad thing.

I was super excited to listen to this cos I'd heard loads of great things about it and it seemed right up my alley. I'm a bit disappointed though. Its not at all bad by any means - the instrumentals are all absolute heat - I just didn't really like the vocals. They just came off as a bit irritating at times. Once again, still a good album that I enjoyed, just not as much as I hoped.

Death Grips - Year of the Snitch

chill death grips beats to study to

drug bug - sometimes it gets worse...

Fantastic EP from Drug Bug. Whilst I enjoyed his album, it felt a bit too much like a worse Willy Rodriguez, but this project is making me more hopeful about getting some amazing music post-Willy. It still has the same charm I'd want from Star, but feels fresher and in a slightly different direction, which is very much welcome.

蛋堡 [Soft Lipa] - 月光 [Moonlight]

"Nya we'll tung tung tung :3 " - Soft Lipa
Actually some of the greatest jazz rap of all time. I loved Soft Lipa's debut so I wanted to see what else he'd cooked up, and got blessed with this sublime masterpiece. The rapping is great - can't understand it, but it stills flows great and is super catchy and charismatic - but the standout feature is those instrumentals. These are the best jazz rap beats I've heard since listening to Magic, Alive!, so warming and ... read more

Robin Callaway - i saw an angel in the mirror

This the type of music that reminds you why you listen to underground artists. This the type of music that would have a 93 user score if it released 15 years ago. This the type of music that becomes the benchmark for AOTYcore 3 years down the line. This is some of the most impressive shit I've ever heard. It's noisy and beautiful and so stupidly epic. The vocals are passionate and emotional, and the instrumentation feels like it was birthed from within your ear drums. Theres about 5 ... read more

Sufjan Stevens - Illinois
85

Illinois is a pretty odd album, but super engaging nonetheless. The instrumental are lush and beautiful, and complement Sufjan's vocals excellently. The most impressive part, though, is just how well the music is able to draw you into its world, and even though I didn't fully grasp the storyline from first listen, it is probably cool.

Highsenberg - Superman, Reach The Sun!
70

This was a super interesting experience. Its 3 songs, each around 10 minutes, and fully instrumental with some samples sprinkled through. They all take their time initially, but then have a pretty awesome second half. Everything is super well produced, too. Unfortunately, I just dont have the attention span to revisit this often, but still a super solid listen.

새눈바탕 [Bird's Eye Batang] - 손을 모아 (Flood Format)
70

Listened to this ages ago in the same week as 3 other Mid Air Thief projects, leading me to forget to review this one. Flood Format is a solid album from Mid Air Thief, but it does feel like its focusing more on sounding nice that making good songs. It does sound really nice though, never has noise been more pleasing to the ear, however I prefer his projects with more meat on the bone beside just a cool collection of bleeps and bloops.

蛋堡 [Soft Lipa] - 收斂水 [Lotion]

Nujabes has gone too mainstream for me... I'm a Soft Lipa guy now. Anyway, this is an incredible jazz rap experience. It is very Nujabes-like, but with an inbuilt shing02 and a little jazzier, too. The initial run of tracks is incredibly strong, too, full of bangers, and the quality doesn't drop too much (outside of maybe the bonus track which felt a bit unnecessary). Incredible album overall, and I could see it rivaling even the likes of Luvsic.

Temachii - flora maniia

Damn this is some of the prettiest stuff to ever bless my ears. The production is genuinely fantastic, creating some beautiful, dreamy instrumentals which perfectly complement the quiet vocals. Genuinely had me levitating at times

Sade - Love Deluxe

Super solid soul album, I can see why its so highly rated. Her vocals are great, and the instrumentals are all super chill, creating a really pleasant, soothing experience overall.

Xextapes - OCTOBER HEAVENN
75

I swear I didn't listen to this because of that album cover, it was because I'd just listened to Desofusiony's latest mixtape and that was really good and he had a feature here and Xextapes also had a super solid feature on that album and I got curious and saw this was only 16 minutes so what's the worst that can happen, y'know? And it actually wasn't bad at all. The production was really nice, super dreamy, and the song with Deso was actually really really good. ... read more

Desofusiony - i can still be your angel (holy water)

A super cool experimental hiphop album. The rapping, when present, was solid, but by far the best aspect of this album was the production. The glitchy soundscapes on every song were some of the best since By The Time I Get To Pheonix, and created such a unique, vibey ambience throughout the whole album. Crazy underrated

Kero Kero Bonito - Civilisation
85

Sounds a lot like a combination of Civilisation 1 and 2, but with a bit extra. The production was excellent and went in a different direction to what I've come to expect from KKB, and lyrically it was also super interesting. Possibly could become my favourite KKB album in the future.

Willy Rodriguez - No Discernible End in Sight (Face to Face)
80

I've been getting into both Willy Rodriguez and CSH recently so I thought it was cool than my favourite gay furries referenced my other favourite gay furry so overtly. And, unfortunately, this album slaps. This sucks because I really don't want to listen to this, even if the music is really good, purely cos the song names absolutely suck. I can't have my friends scroll through Airbuds and come across me listening to shit like 'I Luv Juddy Hopps' (phenomenal song tho) ... read more

Car Seat Headrest - Twin Fantasy (Face to Face)
100

Initially, from first listen, I had this rated as a 90 knowing the score would slowly climb up. It wasn't a matter of if it would get rated 100, but when, and how high up my favourite albums ranking it would get. Basically every song on this is a masterpiece of music, coming together to create a basically perfect album. The instrumentals are all awesome, super catchy whilst being grand and explosive. Its not afraid to take its time and slow down, but never drags. Will's vocals are ... read more

The Femcels - I Have To Get Hotter

Simultaneously super entertaining and immensely annoying to listen to in a way no other album has ever matched for me

75

Don't want to make the obvious comparison, but this was very Death Grippy, very loud and very aggressive in a similiar style. I just didn't enjoy the vocals as much ad MC Ride's, and the production wasn't as unique. It could also feel a bit muffled at times. However, that's not to say this was a bad album by any means, still super cool, I'd just rather get this type of music elsewhere.

lexycat - Dark Blossom
85

super cool, super unique vibe to this album. there's like a dark, otherwordly feel to it that was surprisingly chill for a d&b album. the drums always hit exactly as intended, and the production around them was extremely cool. the Headlock song slapped, too
