Solange - When I Get Home
80

Solange has a beautiful voice and the spacey and atmospheric production was cool. Features were well integrated. Both Playboi Carti and Gucci Mane did a terrific job on their features. However, some of the songs feel very repetitive.

Offset - FATHER OF 4
60

First and foremost: I hate this cover art. It's horrible.

I really enjoyed the first song and after listening to it, I thought this could end up being a very deeply personal album for Offset about his family. But nah that one song was pretty much it. While he does mention his children in several spots throughout the album, most of the album is just pretty basic. It is the best Migos solo album, but none of them were all that good so that's not exactly high praise

Lil Pump - Harverd Dropout
35

Pump tries to step out of his comfort zone here. I commend him for the effort and trying something new, but this album falls completely flat. It just feels like boring, run of the mill trap music. Lil Pump doesn't bring the same outlandish energy that he brought on his self titled project released in 2017. His first album was good because it was stupid and fun. This project was stupid and boring.

Xiu Xiu - Girl with Basket of Fruit
75

This album is incredibly dark and unsettling. However, that is not really a bad thing. Unfortunately, the more I have listened to it over the few weeks since it's release, the more it has grown off of me. Mostly because I feel as if on some tracks Xiu Xiu is trying too hard to be different, even though they already very much are. Still a very good album though.

Ariana Grande - thank u, next
65

While it does feel more personal, it also feels a lot more bland than her 2018 release, Sweetener. I think the fact that Sweetener was produced almost entirely by Pharrell really helped that album, especially since the beats on thank u, next are incredibly basic and boring for the most part. This album does have some highlights though. Songs like NASA and ghostin are both pretty standout tracks. It is also no secret that Ariana Grande has an excellent voice and effortless delivery. Gunna - Drip or Drown 2

Basic beats, repetitive flows, this album is nothing special. There are a few solid tracks on this album though. 3 Headed Snake and Same Yung N***a are both stand out songs. But not even features from Young Thug and Playboi Carti could save this album from how purely boring it is. The pure repetitiveness of this album gets incredibly annoying as you listen to it, every single song sounds the same, and you keep holding out hope that the next song will sound different and refreshing, but it never ... read more

Cherry Glazerr - Stuffed & Ready
70

Kinda disappointing, kinda felt like a step down from Cherry Glazerr's previous work, however it isn't bad by any means, and there are some really good tracks on it.

Favorite track: Stupid Fish
Least Favorite track: Daddi

Sneaks - Highway Hypnosis
75

Very unique. I really love the way it blends genres so effortlessly.

James Blake - Assume Form
60

James Blake is very talented, but the more I listen to this project, the more bored I am by it. Some of the production is very good, especially from Metro Boomin, and the features are well integrated, but as far as the rest of the album goes, not a lot stands out to me.

Sharon Van Etten - Remind Me Tomorrow
75

I'm going to give this an 85 after my first listen, but I can see potential for it to grow on me. The production across the board is absolutely fantastic. The vocals from Van Etten are also great throughout the album. However, "I Told You Everything" really didn't grab me and pull me in as an intro track. I also was not that huge of a fan of the closing track "Stay". But, I do think the middle of the album is very strong.

At this point I have only listened to the album ... read more

Frank Kole - Bawskee 2

very boring trap beats. Nothing special about them at all. Comethazine uses similar flows on literally every song. Not to mention, I find his voice is so annoying for some reason. Didn't really expect much lyrically but was still disappointed. Run time is very short with most of the songs being about two minutes long. It's just okay but none of it sounds original at all.

MF DOOM - MM..FOOD
84

I really like this album, I think all the skits kinda hurt the momentum a little bit. But it isn't really something that hinders the album all that much. I love the jazz influenced production. DOOM, as always, brings great lyrics and flows. I think the food theme is really fun and original. Overall, Mm.. Food is a pretty great album, but too many skits and the TV samples get somewhat annoying after a while in my opinion, but those aren't flaws that are hard to overlook.

21 Savage - i am > i was
75

I’m so surprised by this album. 21 sounds like he had a real creative direction that he wanted to pursue on this album, and he ends up producing one of the more fun and enjoyable trap albums of the year. Production is pretty great on most tracks and 21 even makes some attempts to make his delivery more interesting here and there. Obvious this album doesn’t move the moon and the stars but it is enjoyable and fun to say the least.

XXXTENTACION - SKINS
25

Had potential, but scattered and obviously unfinished. This is an obvious cash grab by his label, and a lazy one at that. All the tracks are basically half a verse and then a hook or just a hook repeated 2 or 3 times. I wouldn't really call this an album, more of a compilation of unfinished snippets, and if it was marketed as such I wouldn't be upset .

Corey Feldman - Angelic 2 the Core
0

I listened to this today. I thought to myself before I went in “It can’t be as bad as everyone says”. Well butter my ass, cover me in sausage gravy, and call me a classic southern breakfast, because this is THE WORST piece of music I have ever heard in my entire life. I SHIT YOU NOT, I am sick to my stomach right now because of this album. I read online that he asked his fans to donate him like $100,000 to fund this album and he only got $14,000. I am 100% convinced that every ... read more

Earl Sweatshirt - Some Rap Songs
93

This is a nearly perfect album. The production is absolutely fantastic. I love the jazz rap feeling it has to it. The lyrics are up to par by Earl Sweatshirt standards too. My only issue is, most of the songs are really short, which I am okay with, but some of them feel unfinished since they end sorta abruptly when I feel like he could've done more with the track. Also, a few of the transitions feel a little awkward but that doesn't matter that much in my mind.

It just feels like the album ... read more

JID - DiCaprio 2
76

As a big fan of The Never Story this was kinda a let down. The production was less creative and they sounded more like plain trap beats for the most part as opposed to the jazzy and funky production of The Never Story. J.I.D also really didn’t seem like he had much to say on this album. I think he is a really talented guy, and that’s why this album still works, but he can do better.

Tropical Fuck Storm - A Laughing Death in Meatspace
90

This thing sounds really weird... but like... in a good way. Lots of political commentary. This thing is crazy but so much fun to listen to. You Let My Tyres Down is one of my favorite tracks of the year. The only thing I didn't like was the last song. I think they could've just cut that one. Otherwise, an amazing album.

Denzel Curry - TA13OO
92

the 3 acts thing is ok. Otherwise all the music on this is great. I love the dark production and Curry's constant hard hitting delivery. Curry goes outside of his comfort zone on a few songs here, but I think it pays off for him.

KIDS SEE GHOSTS - KIDS SEE GHOSTS
90

Both Kanye and Cudi perform pretty well vocally, the production is amazing, I love the rock and roll inspired production that runs through most of the album. I also feel as f both Cudi and Kanye attack the subject matter in a very interesting and personal way that listeners can also relate to. Tons of replay value on tracks throughout the album too.
