#232 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

I think this is going to be a continuing trend for me, where I can greatly appreciate a body of work for jazz, but I haven’t yet been able to find any personal connection nor meaning to justify a higher rating. Maybe I’ll just have to wait for the “best of the best” jazz records on this list for me to finally see the light.

#233 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

An immensely powerful and beautiful record that I think went on to inspire many of the 21st century’s greatest female vocalists in some way or another. I went into this with no expectations and was blown away with how grandiose the production was in some parts, whilst managing to tame it down during the album’s slower moments; in either case, Tori Amos’ strong vocals and storytelling ability always ... read more

#234 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

I reckon I liked this a lot more than their debut, by this point Ozzy is solidified as the Prince of Darkness and brings that energy to some of the songs here, as well as exploring some interesting varieties of styles throughout the tracklist. Guitar went crazy on this. I also wish Embryo was a full song.

The highs on this are excellent, the lows on here are alright.
Very excited to eventually explore their earlier discography and what made them so beloved prior to this album, which seems to me that it’s a bit divisive especially among rock and also Metallica fans themselves.

#238 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

In a relatively surface level observation, this is an album that I believe is more cited for its influence than the actual musical substance it provides. This allows for an interesting experience for a Daft Punk fan as myself, the duo who have notoriously been inspired by Kraftwerk.
Overall I loved listening to this, the tracks all succeeded in sticking to the albums overarching theme whilst leaving room for extra layered ... read more

#239 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

Terrible and dated production, overall a boring and tedious listening experience, and quite frankly amateurish lyrics.
I’m not going to be convinced of any “ahead of its time” nonsense when this came out around the same time as 3 Feet and Rising, Public Enemy, and the same year as Paid In Full….

#242 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

A bit of a conflicted listen for me. The only experience I have with TVU has been ‘White Light’ which wasn’t too long ago on this list - with that album I fully understood what they were trying to achieve sonically and conceptually, and compared to that ‘Loaded’ feels a little bit directionless and confusing to me, having some really fantastic listens followed immediately by seemingly ... read more

#244 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

Admittedly, this is one of my favourite albums of all time - however the few rough edges it has simply cannot be ignored, most likely due to this being created in a span of only two weeks.

#250 Rolling Stone’s “Greatest 500 Albums of All Time”

In the same vein as Al Green’s ‘Greatest Hits’, this is a compilation album that still manages to tick (MOST) the boxes of a cohesive album. This kicks off punk-rock-pop that would come to be the blueprint of bands such as Green Day. Having quite a significant length of close to 80 minutes, this album does unfortunately run out of steam close to the finish, as majority of projects this length do, however ... read more
