I think this is going to be a continuing trend for me, where I can greatly appreciate a body of work for jazz, but I haven’t yet been able to find any personal connection nor meaning to justify a higher rating. Maybe I’ll just have to wait for the “best of the best” jazz records on this list for me to finally see the light.

I reckon I liked this a lot more than their debut, by this point Ozzy is solidified as the Prince of Darkness and brings that energy to some of the songs here, as well as exploring some interesting varieties of styles throughout the tracklist. Guitar went crazy on this. I also wish Embryo was a full song.

The highs on this are excellent, the lows on here are alright.
Very excited to eventually explore their earlier discography and what made them so beloved prior to this album, which seems to me that it’s a bit divisive especially among rock and also Metallica fans themselves.

In a relatively surface level observation, this is an album that I believe is more cited for its influence than the actual musical substance it provides. This allows for an interesting experience for a Daft Punk fan as myself, the duo who have notoriously been inspired by Kraftwerk.

Terrible and dated production, overall a boring and tedious listening experience, and quite frankly amateurish lyrics.
I’m not going to be convinced of any “ahead of its time” nonsense when this came out around the same time as 3 Feet and Rising, Public Enemy, and the same year as Paid In Full….

Just an absolutely phenomenal live album - I never expected that so many of them could get this good. The repeat songs from his compilation album are even better here.

This mf really sampled himself multiple times on the same album. A tracklist that offers something of value to the listener on almost every track, whether it be a catchy chorus, well-written storytelling or LL Cool J’s humorous wit, this was ahead of its time and remains to stand the test of time.

A powerful debut from one of the greatest voices at all time, Whitney packs this album with recognisable hits, incredible performances and a lasting impression. I do think it takes the first few songs to get properly started but after that is close to perfection.
