Reviewing this album 5 years on it still holds great replay value. Saba's vocals and rapping on this album is fantastic and is a staple not just in conscious hip hop but hip hop itself. A great project overall from Saba.
Best songs: Busy/sirens, life and prom/king
Definitely not what I expected from Peggy and Danny Brown. On the surface the album is unpleasant to listen t but the more I listen the more I appreciate Peggy's unique production on this album and for me this is easily album of the year so far.
Best songs: Burfict and Kingdom Hearts Key
A great album not talked about enough. Amazing features from Rocky, RTJ, DOOM, Conway and Joey. Great production and Black thoughts rapping was amazing. Overall a very consistent album.
Best songs: because, Belize and cheat codes
A solid album from 6lack but it shows a lack of progress from EALL. Still a decent album but could have been better.
One of my favourite projects from earl with a futuristic sound and great production.
Best songs: shattered dreams, the mint and azucar
Good album by Joey and follows up 1999 well with lighter vocals and exploring much more delicate topics.
Best songs: Survivors guilt and Show Me
Amazing album offering a deeper extension of themes covered in Vince's self titles with more personal aspects from Vince's childhood. Vince's unique voice on these heavy synth beats offer a great listen.
Best songs: AYE!, WHEN SPARKS FLY and PAPERCUTS
Loved this album with a very good, consistent track list. Excited to see more from Smino.
Best songs: No L's, 90 proof, Ole ass Kendrick and Pro freak
Very solid album MAVI delivers again and yet still remains very underrated.
Good consistent album from Kendrick tackling challenging issues within Kendrick's life. Enjoyable listen and has stayed in my rotation for a while. I still don't think it was worth the five year wait but I will not let this take anything away from the album itself. I also hoped for better feature performances.
Bets songs: Father time, N95, Die hard and silent hill
Easily album of the year with a vast diversity of tracks and good feature performances from 21, Durk and Ari Lennox. Overall with the quirky beats and phenomenal rap performances from JID.
Best songs: Sistanem, Surround sound, Dance now and KB31
Great album and a good development in Zel's career, excited for future albums.
Best songs: Melt session, Walkin and troubles.
